I see nothing at all wrong with tracing a difficult pose if it helps, and proper credit to the original pose is given. *^^*

As long as things were able to be worked out through talking that's great. More people should follow that example.

I went to the said artist tumblr to know their opinion on this, and as a probably serious, responsible grown up they called it a "terrible trace" and literally told all their followers to come spam Sinful account. Wtf?? Why do some artist feel the need to act like 12yo bully kids

Lol, wow. I would never commission them. I've heavily referenced poses before and been accused of tracing too.
Even when my upload stated "this was referenced" and linked back to the original...

I use almost no reference at all in my art so Ive never had problems with these stuff. But holy damn people act like they own a POSE?

It was older artwork when I was still learning. I don't reference anything anymore.

Well reference is not a problem, its good for anatomy :)

I had a person copy and adjust one of my poses by simply enlarging it. The person has denied the accusation saying "it is a common pose". I took their drawing and overlaid it upon my original and found exact lines to withing a one pixel distance. So in other words when i enlarged my original it exactly matched their drawing that they sold to someone for money. I demanded recompense. Furaffinity staff did nothing. Liquid36 is still doing art. I only watch him to see if he is going to plagiarize my artwork again.
I don't know your story or what happened to you but I thought I'd let you know my inability to find closure to outright theft of my artwork. many of my pictures all have the same 3/4 viewpoint at ground level which has become a kind of artist's crutch or trademark showing that I am the sole creator. none of the rest of Liquid 36's artwork is the same 3/4 ground level view. as an example.
I am happy you found an exceptible solution to being plagiarized. It might be you have far more popularity than I do. and that liquid36 also has more popularity than i do. This might be the reason Furaffinity decided to not abide by their own rules.

Hey, I'm glad it's been worked out, but I feel like I gotta be straight up honest - it wasn't cool.

I hope you understand why the artist was upset (rightly so!) and to be VERY careful about using other artists work as reference, especially if a customer is asking for it! When you're making money or trading for the work it's best never to get that close to a unique image. There are ways to reference without using the direct idea involved.

I know people are going to sit here and tell you it's okay, but it simply isn't (Which is frustrating, as butt-pats don't help anyone learn). Gotta make sure and look at the other artists shoes and realize you're profiting in some way off their hard work, and it usually will bite you right in the butt. It sounds like you understand all this now. When people say you "can't copyright a pose", that's a silly excuse, and doesn't defend your integrity as an artist. Images CAN be copyrighted, regardless of pose. You didn't copy a pose, you copied an image depicting a unique set of poses. (reference is too light of a word, it was pretty similar, not traced, but that's pedantic) So... folks are kinda wrong I think, as your medium was a drawn image, and not a photograph or set of poses by real people in real life. Don't soak up all the positive fluff, and try remain as humble as you can. You got a lot of comments defending you with their hearts in the right place, but perhaps they were uninformed as to the situation, which is upsetting to see.

I say this as an fellow artist, colleague, fulltime illustrator, and someone who's been around the block many times in this situation. Both as someone who's referenced too closely, and someone who's been referenced and traced! While not worth going to court over, an artist does have the right to pursue someone over this sort of thing - then there's bad press, negative stuff online, even losing your jobs in some circumstances. So please be careful in the future! this stuff goes around QUICK in the art world and it's hurtful for all sides to deal with. It can lose you respect depending on how you handle it, and even customers.

Anyhoo enough rambling, I don't mean to be a downer. It's just my two cents, and thought you might benefit from it.

While I agree for the most part, what's irking me is how the other artist handled it. They didn't come forward and talk about it, they went on tumblr n said to drag Sin n that's just not right. Like, I understand being alarmed/upset n whatnot, but that kind of quick-fire "DRAG THEM" reaction is uncalled for. Like, damn, Stormcat got their stuff gettin traced right n left, they send notes, explain the situation and have it taken down after a quiet discussion and they don't try to take down people unless someone's being unreasonable and won't take down the piece. I got my stuff stolen, I didn't make a post about it until the person doing it refused to remove/give credit for the piece. It just pisses me off that someone would actually tell their fans to attack another artist when simply speaking to Sin woulda found an explanation and an offer to remove the picture. Like, I find that way worse than Sin simply trying to meet a commissioner's demands in a well-meaning way and not seeing/understanding the issue at hand. It's not like the piece was purposefully hunted down by Sin, sketched out and offered to the commissioner as an original concept--and I'm not trying to justify tracing or referencing things this heavily, but context and intent matters.

The same result of Sin recognizing a mistake was made would have been reached in a calm, one-on-one discussion of the matter and sicking fans on Sin is just messy and wrong imo--and that kind of setting-fans-on-someone behavior strikes me the bigger issue in this situation. :\

I can absolutely agree, the artist handled it poorly although I can sympathize with wanting to be defended. Much in the same way Sin was, when they posted journals detailing the same issue, which was sadly on par and the same level in my eyes. In the end, the artist retaliated in the way they felt they had to. I never agree with callouts and dragging someone, I much prefer talking in private! But some folks have a faster knee-jerk reaction and when upset, take to the net much faster. I can't fault anyone for that, truly.

Simply because you reacted one way, doesn't really compare to how someone else will, and it's not fair to compare your feelings to theirs when they had their work used for profit in this way. You can't place blame on the client or the artist, when it was Sins decision to go ahead and make the image. And perhaps they didn't know until now how thats a very very bad thing, gotta learn the hard way sadly (And the customer should not ask for something so similar either). In the end, Sin had to take responsibility and thankfully they offered to remove it! That was very good on their part. It doesn't matter HOW Sin drew the image, or how it was brought about: fact is they did it, and have learned it's not wise to do. Context does matter, but I think I see the context a bit differently and thats A-OK! (You're being super civil and I really applaud it)

I think in the end, I feel both sides did a poor thing. Artist went public without trying to contact Sin, and Sin made the image without asking permission and then also went public. It seems things calmed down and thats great, I just hate seeing folks go through this sort of thing because it's never a fun experience.

I feel that the onus wasn't on the artist, but was on Sin to make calm collected contact and apologize. After all, they wouldn't have removed it or understood/felt remorse if they didn't get in trouble for it and that's the lesson folks gotta learn sometimes.

Oh, I wasn't intending to be confrontational or like start anything at all--on the note of being civil. Just, kinda trying to express why I sympathize with Sin more in this situation. But also, I do see your view on it and, yeah, I feel a less irritated with the other artist now ngl. Like, things coulda been done/handled better by both parties, for sure, I was just more sore at the idea of the other artist's fans harassing Sin and like it registered as undeserved punishment to me, y'know?

But then, since everyone's apologized all around, I guess one way or another it turned out ok, though the situation n handling wasn't ideal. ;w;

Haha its all good! I meant that I just dont see people being civil much on this site so its really nice when I DO see it. And absolutely, being and feeling attacked over a public dispute is NEVER good, I totally see why it was upsetting for Sin and I am incredibly glad things worked out. I really hope the other artist feels better about it after as well. Call-outs should never be the punishment, it brings in so many extra random people x_x and not worth the pain.
