Online will be 17 a year. And their servers will be beefed up.

But why would you pay even more to play games that you own, on a console that you own, with internet that you pay for? It's a scam!

Let me explain why companys do this. You see owning a server isnt free. Steam even has to pay for their servers to keep it running. But they have other means to pay for it. Nintendo isnt steam. So companys like sony and micosoft and nintendo have to host their own servers and that costs money. How will they keep the servers running they need a steady flow of money if they want to keep a expensive network of servers running. Well how about the consumer pays for it. If they want to keep using online gaming why not pay for it if they want to. Local multiplayer is still free. and its only 17 a YEAR not 9.99 a month.(playstation plus) or 40$ a year (Xbox live) Thats 2 dollas a month. Its practically nothing to someone with a job. If you are saying paying for something is a scam then living is a scam.

A lot of games aren't made by the same makers of the console, though admittedly that is more common on Nintendo's platforms! If I'm paying to play, say, Call of Duty, on servers owned by Infinity Ward, that money isn't going to Infinity Ward, it's lining the pockets of the console developers! The only reason companies charge for online, is because they've done it in the past, and they know people will continue to pay for it, so they will continue to do it in the future!

What does this have to do with keeping servers alive.

Yeah but that's not at all like modern online game consoles. Plus you still needed to buy these stuff needed for online support.
