First Women's Day was held in 1909 in USA and a year after got adopted by socialist movements in other countries during Second International in Copenhagen, when they decided they will organise protests every year in support of suffrage for women. During one of them, on March 8 in 1914, suffragist Sylvie Pankhurst was arrested - that's probably why this holiday is celebrated on March 8 :)

Well, basically there is still a lot of places on Earth when women are discriminated, in some Arab countries they can't vote, drive or go anywhere without their husbands, in Africa they're undergoing FGM, in Russia and Mexico violence against them is often tolerated even by authorities they report it to, in Western countries they often earn less money for the same work than men... so there are still many things to fix and reasons to protest, unfortunately :D

For example in my country - Poland, people from PiS ("Law and Justice") party, since 2015 forming the government and having a majority in parliament, are searching for more and more ways to make women's lives harder xd For example:

- They considered to ban abortions in EVERY case, even rape or fetus having lethal mutations, the bill proposed by ultra-conservative foundation (which, in fact, ordered every miscarriage to be investigated :D) was already pushed for voting, and only mass protests of women in October (known as "Black Protest") kept them from doing this. But this is still unsure if they will not seek to apply this ban again in future.

- They made morning-after pills available to buy only with a prescription from a gynaecologist, despite recommendations by European Union to provide them without it. Officially - to keep teen girls from buying it and taking in large amounts without control, which is bullshit because they are expensive and no teen would can afford so much pills :D

- They announced they will try to repeal Poland's signing of "Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence", because they believe this convention promotes "gender ideology" (whatever it is xD) and is a mass leftist attack on traditional family values. Which is even bigger bullshit.

- They cancelled the government obstetrics standards improvement program "Humane Way of Childbirth", just to allow conservative doctors to lead the childbirth the way they want it to look - not giving a fuck if this way is painful or dangerous for the woman. It may sound weird, but we have a lot of such doctors, who for example say "I don't allow C-sections, fuck yourself".

Why? Dunno. Probably they're either religious conservative radicals who would die if they would not impose their outdated and harmful views on everyone, or just mean, little bastards full of complexes about their little dicks (or - for the PiSwomen - having no relationship in their entire life due to their awful character), who just want to show women how much they hate them because they can't lift their self-esteem in any other way. Or both - what I think.

And these 4 things are currently main themes for various feminist events happening in Poland now, during the March 8 we also had some :D
