There's a reason for that. Conventions want to ensure that the media see the best side of the fandom, and who better to do that then the hand-picked few that board of directors / con chair choose? On a sidenote, Rainfurrest is officially taking a dirt nap. However there are two cons replacing its abscence: Furvana and Anthro NW. Interestingly ANW denies its actually a "furry" convention despite it actually being one in every other respect.
