Artists Making Fun of People asking for Requests
8 years ago
I always thought it was a dick move. Like...This person politely asks if you do requests, and you decided "kek, i'm going to reply with a smart ass answer, putting this person in their place, screen cap it, and become twitter famous". That's always such a dick move, dude. This is probably why a lot of people think popular artists are complete assholes. All you need to do is say "Sorry, but I'm not open to do requests at the moment" and MOVE ON. Don't fucking shame the person for asking an innocent question.
"BUT WHAT IF THE PERSON KEEPS SPAMMING MY INBOX WITH IT?!"
Then ignore the person, and block him if you have to.
"BUT WHAT IF THEY'RE BEING RUDE TO ME FIRST?!"
Then have at it. My issue is when people are asking politely, not causing a fuss, and then get shamed and shit on for it.
"I HAVE 'NOT OPEN FOR REQUESTS' PLASTERED ALL OVER MY PAGE! THEY SHOULD KNOW BETTER!"
Yes, but that still doesn't mean you have the right to be rude and publicly shame them if they're not being rude to you.
See, I'm not a popular artist, so when someone asks if I do requests, I'm flattered as all hell...I have to decline for whatever reason, but still. I don't have to sort through 50 notes a day about requests, so my view on this may be a bit skewed. Still, don't be a complete dick to someone because they're curious. If you have to, make a journal stating you're not open.
I'm sorry I went on this rant, but I'm kind of tired of seeing all these artists posting screencaps publicly shaming people asking for requests. These people are your fans, and you want to shoo them away because you wanted to get retweets for being hilarious.

Many don't know that doing that can really mess with the rep of the artist in the future.
