Rant about Telegram
So, recently I got a Telegram because most of my friends were migrating to it. According to them, Skype was giving them issues and whatnot. Skype worked pretty fine for me. I don't like having more than 1 messenger, but I got a Telegram because pretty much everyone else was going there.
Telegram always seemed inferior to Skype to me (I only use the computer version of both because I rarely use IM messengers on my phone. I also use a Mac so maybe that made a difference?). But recently, Telegram has been absolute, pure garbage.
- I can't add a profile icon.
- People's messages haven't been going through to me.
- Notifications that I got a message either won't show up or will only show up AFTER I've replied to the newest message... because that makes sense.
- And worst of all, Telegram has always has a shitty means of having a contacts list, but the most recent update seems to have completely eliminated the ability for me to add contacts. It's gotten rid of the button. Poof. It's gone.
I'm hoping some of these things will be resolved the next time it updates, but it's ironic as fuck that people moved from Skype because they rewere having issues with it, and now I came to Telegram because of that, and Telegram is giving me a fuckload more issues than Skype ever did.

Shame though, AIM was pretty good back in the day when it was new. But Skype works very well and fine for me. May have had some lag issues, but no other major issues that would warrant an 'abandon ship' approach.
Skype is my primary although I use Discord on webpage (mainly because im with a few groups these days).
Personally, I haven't had any problems with Skype since the "Windows 8 Update" where they made a Metro-based store app. Discord and Telegram, though... Discord just kills my browser or causes all sorts of problems with my sound and graphics, while Telegram just doesn't work for me.
Just goes to show, everyone has different experiences with the same software. Personally, I'd rather stick with Skype. It works for me.
I love Telegram because its app works really well on my phone and it doesn't lag. I tried downloading the Skype app - almost 200MB, and when I opened it? Lagged my phone to shit. Notifications didn't come in until ten minutes after the message was sent. I would have to actually go into the app to be considered online because it was so RAM heavy that my phone shut it off in the background.
Telegram is better on desktop too IMO. Much better convo management, sleeker and more pleasing design, groups are set up much better, and you can see if someone's read your messages/is online or not.
Skype, for me, is outdated. I have Discord for chatting and Telegram for IMs, and Skype feels old. The way it looks is like some messenger from the late 2000s, and it runs like an elderly man who has no interest in actually getting where you want him to go.
What's funny is all of those issues you've mentioned I and many others have had with Skype, and much more.
There are only two relevant IMs right now: Telegram (mobile-focused) and Discord (PC- and gaming-focused, plus groups and customization). Skype needs to be cancelled or something as it's nothing but a security liability now for anyone that's too stubborn to move from that heaping pile of shit.
