Marvel's Iron Fist (Mini Review)
Hey y'all.
Sorry I haven't been very active lately like I planned. Personal stuff keeps getting in the way and by the time I have peace of mind I seem to be loosing my focus when I try to write or draw. Hopefully I'll find my way back to creating again. I do hope everyone here has been doing well.
So; just wanted to give my two cents on Netflix's latest Marvel series Iron Fist since I just finished unintentionally binge-watching it like I did with Daredevil and Jessica Jones (Would have done it with Luke Cage but that one I committed to waiting for a few of my buddies to watch when we had time).
Now before I say my peace please note...I do NOT plan on going into a war about why some or all of you may despise the show. If you hate it that's find and I honestly understand as I have a point to make about a big flaw with the show, but don't expect me to going into frantic conversation to try to explain why I'm "Defend"ing the show (ba-da-CHING!).
*clears throat* With that said..........I liked it, but it certainly is the weakest of the last three shows...even weaker than Daredevil Season 2.
I think the biggest problem I can understand why it's not great is mostly the mood and pacing. I'm ok with the fact Danny's origin season was trying to come to terms with returning to his old life stolen from him from the plane accident and his parents deaths or committing to his role as the Iron Fist, but the B plot with the Mechumns were indeed the weakest part of the season. I liked most of the characters in this season and I don't have any problems with Finn Jones, but some characters could have been more "responsive" or "not bland", Ward Mechumn being the worst out of the bunch despite the middle portion giving more reason to care. The music wasn't bad, though the score could of had more weight (the theme is actually quite addicting and has become my new ear worm of the week). And the action...as little or quick as most of them were I honestly didn't have a problem with the fighting, though the editing and shots could have been handled better (episode 6 though was handled pretty good).
No; I think the biggest problem out of all of these is the mood of the show which I refer to as "Sedated". It felt like everyone was stuck in a dream for the most part of the season and at first I was willing to go with it because it felt like a metaphor for Danny not feeling as alive unless his in the fight, waking up then. But unfortunately the whole show kind of stayed stuck on this mode.
I do hope the showrunners take note from this season because I still see potential for this series to turn it around. Now that they got the origin season out of the way they can refocus on allowing Danny become a truer incarnation of the Iron Fist that fans want. But that will be up in the air for now until we see if there's any "redemption" for him in Defenders, and if the team doesn't can the show due to the bad ratings.
I may have stated mostly negatives, but the show still kept my interest enough that it didn't feel like a "Slough" like some reviewers put it. I just felt like they put too much focus on the Rand Enterprise side of the story and the Sedated mood could of had some more amped up moments. But this was the experiment the showrunners apparently wanted to go for. I guess only time will tell at this point if the Netflix Marvel series will remain damaged by this show or can bounce back with Defenders and beyond.
Those are my thoughts really.
Until then; catch you later!
