More Update (now with laptop) (now with a Good Edit)

I'm standing here waiting for peanut butter choc chip cookies to finish baking so I can hole myself up in my room again lmao so
may as well Do Some Updating
GOOD NEWS: I got my laptop back about a week ago! it's got windows 8 on it again! I installed photoshop and all the good stuff!
BAD NEWS: it runs slower than before I sent it away. I can't speedpaint without a 20 second brush lag - I'm not even kidding, it's like watching a slow movie of someone doing a colorful scribble, with a brush that has no additional effects, it's just a regular brush. If you play FR and have experienced lag spikes in the coliseum where everything's like 3fps, it plays like that permanently for me so I can't coli grind for the wind festival. Everything takes a long time to load on any web browser. I can't even play FNV without it stuttering.
EDIT: a bunch of settings were set to factory default, including battery performance both on and off power, and the graphics card was set to auto where it only picked up the integrated one, so I set it to NVIDEA and high power performance and that cleared up a LOT of things. minor processes still run slow and it absolutely HATES web browsers but I can deal with that, as long as PS runs smooth af I can survive until desktop
/EDIT
I'm also putting together my itinerary for the America trip! It's looking like I might stop over in NY first off (to meet Jonah Lobe if I can arrange something) and make my way from there.
so. lots of spending ahead, I'm going to drain my savings a lot and also die and HOPEFULLY GET THIS FUCKING LAPTOP WORKING
HOLY SIGMAR

It's also possible that, given the brush lag and game lag, that power settings such as those for on/off battery as well as graphics switching settings got screwed up too.
however, they DID test run diagnostics and final revisions post-install, so something might have happened there, OR they installed a faulty HDD. Either way, it's been slow as hecko since I got it back rather than once I started installing things - just not hugely noticeable as a universal problem until I tried FR and speedpainting today.
It's just as slow off battery as it is on, as well.
Any luck with the other stuff running slow by now?
and it's sort of... sorted itself out? A couple restarts and a couple updates I think were all it needed there. Computers are weird
BUT it fixed all the Photoshop lag issues so at least I can do fast work again, and flash-based things are working smooth. youve saved my butt
I hope that SCREAMING at them resolves these obnoxious issues finally, and if you need the helps in sorting out hardware things I can ATTEMPT to provide whiskerly assistance. As long as you RESPECT THE WHISKERS otherwise I'm gonna attack you with sticks of butter.
mmmmmmmmMMMBUTTER
I imagine there are loads of nerds watching/commissioning you here that could help you out both in guiding you building it and funding you for it.
I've saved up the funds over the last few months, just gotta find a supplier for all the parts that won't cost hell for shipping (which means newegg is a REALLY last resort) and I'm going to check out pcspecialist/pcpartpicker to check compatibility
It's all going to take time though, and rent is always going to be a thing that exists - I /need/ my laptop functional hence why i had it sent away to be repaired in the first place :Y suffering
Do you really NEED a graphics card like that? For your budget, no, I don't think so. Build something to get you by, then save up your money for some more real. Then in the future, if the new big machine of awesomeness breaks down, you'll have your older one that can still get you by.
(this isn't like DA where watchers are notified of edits)
the ppl who ran the repair have a place in wellington though so i can just be like Hey Fuckers Whats This Trash
