Update! Achievement Unlocked! FWA 2017 post-con report.
So! I've been so very busy these last few weeks. Looking into my journals, did I not post a 2016 post-FWA con report???? How did I miss this? Oops. My apologies. So, where to begin?
I've been a little lax about posting WIP photos of Chamoore as I progressed on building him, RL work, change of employment (twice!) and getting finances back on track has taken its toll on me but I'm getting back into a routine again. As you can see from the photos, I made considerable progress getting Chamoore finished in time for FWA 2017 and even went as far to make a Kimono and pouch for carrying things in. For all intents and purposes, he's "done", at least, wearable for events and such. He still needs long hair and maybe a couple finishing touches. So, have a look at the recent photos and tell me what you think.
Next, FWA 2017 Game On. Or should I say, Game Over (insert credits to continue)? Wow! What a convention. I was on staff last year and did so again this year (Logistics). Checked into the hotel Tuesday and stayed until Monday. Loaded out trucks Tuesday night and unloaded Wednesday morning, went down to the lobby Wednesday night in suit. Atlanta had some *VERY* stormy weather and many flights were canceled. Travelers were diverted to any hotel with empty rooms, and ours was no exception. There were flight crews and passengers (as well as other folks) trying to check in, some of the furry suiters were in the lobby near the check-in line up to their usual playful antics and entertaining the guests (and kids). Several of us posed for photos.
Thursday was Opening Ceremonies. Due to the weather and flight cancellations, a number of attendees (and yes, even staff) were unable to make it in time (and some not at all). I suited a bit that night, didn't attend any events as none appealed to me.
Friday I hit up the con store for a t-shirt, the 2 collectors pins, the 3 iron-on patches (they did 8 last year), the RP dice and dice bag (offered as a combo), and visited the Furvilla table for a free lanyard. (I did not buy an FWA lanyard as I got a staff lanyard). No events that day, but did some staffing duties and suited for several hours that evening.
Saturday was the group photo and mingle, which included quite a few smaller group shots - home-built suits, groups from various makers, then groups by species, tail-stripes, etc. Suiters received themed badges in the shape of Tetris game pieces. After the group photo and home built suits, I was getting hot and decided not to bother with further groups; went to cool off a bit then went for a visit to the Furshoot studio. The photos are uploaded to my gallery. After de-suiting, a trip to the 10th floor was the food social (I forget the exact name of it, but there was food, and we were intended to be social). After that was the charity auction (no, I didn't buy anything, but I did at least place one bid), and then there was Dad's Garage, an insanely funny improv comedy act (a returning act from the last couple years). After that I had no plans, so a group of us went out to eat and by the time we returned, I was done for the night.
Sunday was time to get the rental trucks and get ready for Closing Ceremony. Attendance was 4200+, about an 800 increase from last year. I suspect there would have been more but weather and flight cancellations had an impact on it. Loadout went smoothly enough, staff dinner, and a more-than-slightly-sick foxy had me in bed before midnight (no, alcohol was not involved).
Monday morning it was time to leave. We were shorthanded and had like 5 people to unload 3 rental trucks, all of us dead tired and at least one of us not feeling well. But we got it done, and I finally got home and collapsed .... somewhere ... finally making it to bed that evening.
LOOT! A recap: Staff lanyard, Furvilla lanyard, both collectors pins, all 3 iron-on patches, t-shirt, RP dice and bag, Furshoot badge (and USB drive with photos), 3 commission badges from
AnnutheCatgirl (plus 2 more for my friends), FWA Tetris Game Piece badge, FWA hat, and FWA gaming mat (like a mouse pad, but larger). Also, FWA poster and "Do not disturb" door hanger (gifts for all attendees). Let's see, did I forget anything?
It was a lot of hard work, but it was also very rewarding and I had a lot of fun. I hope to see everyone there next year. *****FWA HAS THE WHOLE HOTEL NEXT YEAR!!*****
