I like Dekaranger, featuring space police commander dog alien and smaller robot dog who is also a cannon.

Power Rangers SPD (made from Dekaranger footage) got redubbed in Japanese by the original Dekaranger actors talking over their American SPD counterparts, so if you want a real weird time you could try finding that version to watch.

avoid:

shinkenger - some people claim its "the perfect sentai" now, or did years ago, but it had a lot complaints when it was, and if you thought other seasons were merchandise-driven... just watch,,, its like gundam wing in that its played fairly seriously but then the heroes straight up annihiliate the villains in the mecha battles

goseiger - suffers "shinkenger syndrome" only worse - even the major villains are treated as glorified monsters of the week

gokaiger - fanwank that lead to me losing in interest in sentai

and absolutely, defintely avoid

zyuranger - along with goseiger, one of the most maligned sentai; if you thought the first power rangers was lacking in charaters and/or plot... te isentai it comes from has less
