Been reading about it also. Sad and unreal, but given the fact that it happened to rich kids makes me laugh.

I found it amusing. There seems to be a big group of people who are going "Get me out of here!", what I liked was the tiny group of people going, "Well, the festival sucks, but hey, we're in the Bahamas and that's really cool." Nice to know there are some people who still have that attitude.

True, at least some of them have the right attitude.

I suspect those people were the ones who scrimped, saved and it was going to be a stopping off point rather than just a week away.

My suspicions are the same.

Well, they're in the Bahamas without their luggage and food/housing that looks like malfunctioning emergency rations after a hurricane ^-^

I wonder how the schedules slipped so bad. They clearly bought all the materials, though. Crazy.

Maybe there'll be a big sale on discount dome this year, I was looking to buy one ^-^

From what I've read, the organisers had no clue and no experience. Apparently it's the same time as a big regatta which is "the" big event in the area and has been going on for 60+ years, so a lot of the people/companies/etc you'd need for such an event were at the regatta. The organisers of the festival found out about the regatta a while ago and apparently asked the government to change the dates and the government said, "Umm, no, this is when we always hold it, but you can change your dates" So to me that's an indication no one ever did any homework.

Yeah, really looked like a lack of labor.

I wonder if the subcontractors took the work knowing they couldn't actually do it.

I suspect it was more people with practical experience. I know from experience people always underestimate the amount of labour and time needed. From what I've read they just didn't have that middle layer of management that knew how to get things done. They seemed to have the top level going "This will be awesome" and the low level going, "What do you want us to do next?" but no one going, "Right, x people, which means y toilets, z food and we have finite t amount of time to make it happen"

That jives with what the pictures are showing. Lots of construction materials and stuff littering the area, but only the bare minimum actually put up in time for the event. At the very least you'd think the musicians involved would do their thing, but it appears none of them want to be associated with it now.

There's no stages to play on, the support personnel is just absent.

I'd wonder if a lot of those folks simply had more experience with music festivals. It strikes me that if you've been to a batch, you might be a lot more willing to roll with the idea that okay, a really disastrous one is going to happen at some point.

We should do the reverse hunger games every year.

Some of the statements made by the disappointed party-goers are sort of unintentionally funny, yet sad. The one that keeps sticking in my mind is the person who didn't know that there was such a thing as individually wrapped cheese slices.
