Japan in October
It's likely, or at least prospected, that I'll go back to Japan, likely Tokyo, in October. Curious as to who would want to come with? I did it alone in May to see if I can survive there without any help, and now that I have, let's go back to traveling with friends XD
FA+

I've used China Airlines (not Air China, they're not good) and Japan Airlines, but All Nippon Airways is very good as well. Most Asia airlines are amazing, though airlines based in China have some issues that makes me never want to deal with them. Other airlines that are great though are Cathay Pacific based in Hong Kong and... the other one that goes through Taiwan that I can't remember XD
I generally go for 2 weeks, but time length really just depends. I dislike taking too much vacation at once as coming back to work gets harder the longer you take off (at least in Software Engineering). I'm going for 3 weeks next time, December 26 to January 16, with a lot of people and it's going to be hell setting up living situations for everyone x3
It's worth it :3 flight is pricey but food generally isn't. I finagle free flights and do airbnb, though I have friends in Tokyo and surrounding prefectures. I generally only go to Tokyo, I'm very urban x3 I don't mind Toyohashi, Kyoto, etc. but the nightlife as well as other things that make Tokyo Tokyo are just too great. Not the most beautiful city on those 4 islands though! Sapporo and Osaka are also really great. I'll go to more of the country one day, but probably when my body doesn't let me party so hard on the streets of Dogenzaka x3
I'd say budget $4000 for flight, airbnb, food, etc. if you're going to be shopping, otherwise $2000 is doable. To not stress yourself, I'd make that bare minimum $3000 though. If you're going to be traveling around Japan and not staying in any one city, bring that up by at least another $500. Intercity travel is expensive.
No but really, for Tokyo instead of nice I go for the nightlife district Dogenzaka every time I can. Trains are so good that staying in any neighborhood basically just works, but once the trains are shut down, I'd say it's better to be in an area where things are still happening. My last airbnb was extremely nice, but otherwise I go for cost efficiency without sacrificing my sanity haha. Dogenzaka and Kabukicho are loud, bright, fun and promiscuous. Roppongi too, but I don't really like it there (ymmv). I live in the party neighborhood in Manhattan so I'm kinda used to it, but I can understand if others can't handle it XD Nakano,
Akihabara, Asakusa, and other areas of Shinjuku and Shibuya are all good places to stay and definitely visit. Ikkebukuro too, though that area doesn't have as much of my interests as the other areas do. I don't think the prices are too crazy, I spent $900 for 2 weeks last time, but only $320 when splitting with 3 others in Kabukicho and Minato in Dec-Jan (again 2 weeks).
