Whenever I see this charge I always assume it's a charge for genderbending the YCH example. As in, when the YCH is for a male character, and you want to have your female character in the slot, and keep her female.

That's just changing the gender of the YCH though, obviously that would need a charge - but if you're just gender-bending the character to fit the existing YCH. That shouldn't require a charge. There's no extra work that has to be done for that :s

I've never encountered that variant. But then, I would never gender-bend Rigel. :)

Simply put? Laziness. The artist considers working that out extra work and so charges.

The other option is greed. They see a way to make an extra buck

That's the thing though, if there's a reff sheet? There's no extra work. It's all there for you to see, just stick it on a male body instead of a female one.

Maybe they're misunderstanding what you're requesting? I thought you were talking about changing the YCH's body type, not changing the character to suit the YCH.

I'm not requesting anything, I don't buy YCH's or commissions. If I want something I'll draw it myself~ ^^
But I've seen a lot of people lately saying that they charge extra for changing the gender of a person's character to fit the YCH they've already drawn out. A friend of mine just had an experience with someone who wanted to charge for making her female character into a male, for a male spot in a YCH.

There's literally no added work there. It's just taking a female character's reff sheet, and putting the markings/design on the male body type the artist had already done the majority of?
