Fucking Foxes
8 years ago
They took them. They took all of them.
I had 4 lovely fucking chickens and foxes took ALL of them. Did they bring the whole family or something???
Go around to the neighbors and say "hey dude there's this fucking IDIOT thats moved to the hills and didn't realize how much more crafty we are here for some fucking reason".
My two young pompom silkies are gone. Bambam was big and black and a bit overweight. Pebbles was yellow and small and normal and a quivering wreck half the time. They were naughty and adventurous... Bambam liked getting into new places and pebbles liked following...
Frieda was a brown frizzle and was totally blind... she had a foot infection and a mouth disease we were fighting hard, but perhaps death was a good relief for her - but why like this... They left her head behind...
Fantail was my fucking friend. Fantail was 20 years old, she has been with me forever. She was old and had dementia and effects lasting on her since a battle with pneumonia (which chickens just dont usually get better from, but she did). She was a fucking survivor, she was UNDEAD. She was beautiful and old and now she IS FUCKING GONE.
I was going to get her skeleton articulated when she died so she could stay with me but now its GONE so I FUCKING CAN'T HAVE HER. SHES JUST GONE. My baby wont get a gentle death after a long life, shes just been snapped in fucking half somewhere.
FUCKING FOX BASTARDS TOOK ALL OF THEM. I can't believe they are gone.
Do I even have photos of the silkies? I don't think so...
If I could turn back time I would stake out all night and protect them. I would kick the foxes in the gob and tell them to fuck off.
But I can't. And I wouldn't. Foxes need to eat. I'm not mad at the foxes, they are doing their best. I'd rather them eat another introduced species like my chickens than a native animal thats struggling.
I'm mad that my friends are gone from me forever. All of them. Overnight.
Crows are here to pick up the feathers left behind. I've taken what I want to remember my girls by, they need the rest for their nests. Maybe they can find a morsel left behind to eat too.

Im sorry you've lost friends too <3
As someone who's had a lot of fox attacks, I've had both hens and roosters taken from me by foxes. I had mad, sad and miserable. It's a horrible feeling to have your loved ones {chickens}, taken from you. I wish I could comfort you more but I'm suffering from a hangover from my birthday last night.
Also, mind if I ask where your hens were kept? Did they have a coop?
Usually coops should keep nasty predators out.
It seemed like the foxes there wernt "serious", they would visit sometimes and not do anything. Once i went out and one was just laying happily in between them. Didnt want to eat them.
Its made me lax about coops, almost all predators in Australia are I ntroduced species that dont really care for chickens much anyway. I was lax, leaving the coop to be yhe last thing we did in terms of unpacking.
That was a fucking mistake.
My fantail is gone now.
I hope you enjoyed your virthday! Sorry for the sad shit the day after
The foxes up where I live often keep to themselves, and we only see them usually in Spring since they have little pups. And that's when we basically never let out chickens out. We've lost so many to foxes, and during Spring the little pups are so hungry. QQ
It's always sad and horrible. Most cases the fox will take away the chicken and only leave feathers. We found our white hen headless in the bush, and came up with the theory that the fox was going to get it's pups and feed them. But I'm not very knowledgeable about foxes honestly. {And yet I call myself a furry. XD}
Again, I'm extremely sorry to hear of the loss of your darlings. The pain is horrible to lose hens. But it's the food chain, well... Foxes are 'pests' and what not, but they've been here for so long so I guess they're just another hungry mouth to feed.
It sucks tbh. QQ
Im not going to be able to get more chickens while I live here, im just not used to an area with such a high predator risk - im right next to a national park.
At least I have a head to bury, they left the blind hens (Freida) head behind. I've walked around and posted "missing chicken" leaflets just incase, but I doubt any of them survived. Thankyou for your care ;w;
At least foxes are quick. They dont want to play with their food like cats, they kill them ASAP and carry them away. That gives me relief, along with finding one of my chickens heads on the ground confirming it was a fox.
I had one of my chickens for the majority of my life. She was at the end of hers, but... fox is not the way she should have gone. Shes battled through life, gotten better from illnesses chickens just DON'T heal from... shes just always been there.
And now she isn't. Shes just been... taken.
I'm glad you've had pets to love in your life too, Its a special thing
