While I like what Artfight is about. I don't like their LICENCE GRANT clause that states they have the right to use, alter or pretty much do as they please with any art, oc's, ect, that you may upload onto the site.
When I first joined it a while back ago, that clause was not in place. So after someone pointed it out to me I stopped using it. I don't want a site to have complete use of what I have made for myself or others. Made me uneasy to think they could use one of my oc's for whatever they pleased.
I was a bit curious when I saw this, and went and looked through their ToS.
Sure enough: LICENCE GRANT
By posting any User Content via Art Fight, you are expressly grant, and you represent and warrant that you have a right to grant, to Art Fight a royalty-free sublicensable, transferable, perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive, worldwide license to use, reproduce, modify, publish, list information regarding, edit, translate, distribute, publicly perform, publicly display, and make derivative works of all such User Content and your name, voice, and/or likeness as contained in your User Content, if applicable, in whole or in part, and in any form, media, technology, whether now known or hereafter developed, for use in connection with Art Fight.
I do believe license is spelled wrong, as well.
This definitely doesn't sit too well with me.
However, I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that any and all properties would be used only in conjunction with Art Fight, in things such as advertisements. Either way.
[Sorry to pour this all out in response to your comment, haha. Hope you don't mind!]
It is spelled incorrectly, as well as the wordings off in a lot of places, but it's still there. It didn't sit well with me either, and after some consideration I decided to leave, just because I've had some issues in the past with things likes this. So I am a bit more gun shy on it.
So, I inquired in the Discord channel about this to see what could be said, and the owner (Takaia) responded with:
"It lets us show your art on our website without any risk of us getting sued even though you're the one who put it there (it's to cover us just in case someone tries to say they didn't give us permission to have it on there)
it also lets us do things like the news post from last year displaying crops of peoples' attacks without asking if we can edit them"
I expressed that I asked to clarify and she responded with: "I totally understand! It sounds pretty scary but it's there for ony the reasons I stated. I know it seems excessive but we didn't wanna get in trouble for a loophole. We definitely let you keep your copyrights and stuff and if you ask we'll take down your stuff no problem"
I mean, it is a lot, but it seems fair enough. Not a thing wrong with playing it safe, however! Hopefully this helps out somehow, even if you weren't really wanting information relayed. : 'D
