My sympathies for the loss of your friend's kitten, Dharken. My new cat disappeared last Sunday morning and only returned yesterday. Needless to say, I was happy as can be. Now, however, my happiness is tempered by the knowledge that someone else lost their kitten, permanently.

Their loss shouldn't temper the joy at the return of your cat, it should enhance it. While I don't currently have a cat, I do feed several, some I have known as very small kittens. When I see they return after not showing up for a day or two, I'm always happy to see them again.

Thanks. I also feed several ferals. Twice in the past year, I've buried ones who have died. One died last winter as he lay next to our water heater. I'm glad I happened to need to wash clothes the day after he died. While it wasn't the same as when I had to bury my cat who died of cancer, it was still a very heartbreaking thing to do.

I feed feral cats though for the most part, they aren't that feral. Most hang around unless I'm carrying water for them in the mornings. I tend to spill. I haven't buried any of them but did have a dead kitten under my steps that I didn't find until it had well decomposed. I did lay the bones carefully beneath a large prickly pear cactus out of the way of any traffic pattern around it. Mostly I get cats that just don't come back one day. Some occasionally disappear for a day or two then come back to eat. I'm sorry to hear about your kitty and having to bury the other one who died too. Somehow, whether they were your beloved pet or not, it's never easy.

My heart aches at remembering what it was like to lose our cat years ago; I wish the new spirits journey to be a fruitful one, and may Isis keep such a young soul close and warm.
