None last very long. Blizzard is real good at having private servers taken out of commission, and lawsuits all around....

Blizzard states it it ok to run a private server so long as you do not charge, most go down due to the costs of hosting. Most users on private servers have a paid account and Blizzard knows this. It would cost them more to shut them all down, they only go after the ones that make you pay.

well people already got the data mining techniques, database builders, and server software in place, it's as easy as googleing "run a wow private server" and you can download a pack with all you need. Anyone can run a private server, so it's going to cost them so much money to hunt down every single one and why when thier playership is rising every day?

and again most people play on a private server but keep a payed legit account.

also you can get hacked that way to for your other wow account.

all you have to do to log into one is change the serverlist.wtf file to point to their server, so they can't keylog you that way, unless they insert a key logger into a custom addon they insist you use or a custom exe, such as those that change the serverlist for you. Some you can trust though, like Naxp is a trust worthy place, their launcher is clean.

But ya, some private servers are set up like phishing nets, and try all the login info on real wow servers in hopes that some gullible people used the same info to sign up for the private server, the reputable ones don't do that even if you are that gullible.

The ongoing payment supports the company which creates the game you are playing, think of it as helping them grow.

yeah I will remember that and then I will remember the how many people they already have on their servers, promotional stuff, and advertisement. They are not hurt for cash if I don't pay my $15 a month.
