Say no to greedy people.

There's a "say no to free art" campaign making the rounds, and I just wanted to add to it by reminding them all that most of them are hypocrites.

If you can provide me with receipts proving you own every single piece of content on your computer, every music file, all the software, every movie or television show you watch on the computer, those furry pics and zines you have downloaded, that porno movie you masturbate too frequently (yes people charge for the porn they produce), then you might be spared this rant.
Otherwise, if you demand that people pay for your shit, you're a hypocrite. Plain and simple. You can't expect everyone to pay for everything they come across. THAT is how the real world works. You "starving artists" need to grow the fuck up, just because your "talent" is rare doesn't give you the right to charge out the ass for a single piece of work.
You know what else is rare in this day and age? Polite people who don't have their heads up their ass, ever. What if they started charging for being polite? What if the police gave you a bill before they started their search for that person who mugged you on the subway? What if a fireman demanded payment before he put out your house?
Grow up, greed is just as sickening as people expecting everything to be free.

The community has gone downhill.
Then I'd have to buy them underwear if I cant draw stuff for them. >_<
Or at least on trade :P
I know a few artists who are trying to make a business off of furry art. I don't think that's very lucrative or intelligent.
Also, I'm curious as to know how you'd define "Charging up the ass" for art.
But I remember falling out of my chair laughing.
Now, THAT is greed x_x
Fakking-A. Now THAT is not right. XD
Hmm... Maybe I was thinking of something else o_O
Vista?
I dunno, I'll see.
i mean honestly, sadly there are alot of artists who just do art for making money, to them its their job, but unfortunatly they get ahead of themselves.
but, then theres me, who cannot draw but is learning, but is better off writing songs.
but i dont charge people or make them pay if they want to use abit of or my whole song, as long as they ask first.
so again, Hyopcrites to me, are someone to laugh at for them being such dumbasses.
sure i know what i just said was harsh, but its true to me
My point in contention was that most of the artists were/are hypocrites and steal a multitude of things, be it art, music, tv shows, computer programs, etc... Getting them for free when the people who worked hard to produce them expect to be compensated for their hard work.
I also try my best to be as polite as possible to anyone and everyone, though if the courtesy is not spared to me, I may not acknowledge you.
I can understand the point you are trying to make though. I had tried to make the same point in a journal that I had posted a long time ago and for my efforts, I was blocked by a user on here. I suppose I could have made my point better, but I was also being harassed by an annonymous user who was targeting the user that had blocked me, and it just gets really confusing from that point on.
I can understand artists asking for commissions and asking for up to $100. However, when the artist starts going upward from $100 (and that being their lowest and crappiest piece, such as a very rough sketch), I think it is absurd. Especially when they say something along the lines of, "I need money for my bills this month, please buy a commission. Hope to see ya at (insert convention here)!" If you are really that broke, sell your convention ticket and pay your bills. There are even those who try the excuse, "going to the convention and selling prints is profitable for me." If going costs you money, buying a table and a ticket costs money, and renting a room and buying food costs money, you are not making much of a profit. Especially when you consider that most conventions take out taxes from your earnings, if you make about $2,000 from selling stuff, you still need to figure out what it cost you to go. $3,000 to go and you get $2,000 back? Do not use the excuse, "it was not as expensive to go since I sold stuff," as a buyable excuse. You still lost money, and you are still in debt. Figure out what you would need to make as a profit to go and see if it is even worth it.
But, if an artist offers a commission on a site such as FurBid and it makes its way up that high all on its own, I can respect that. It is not the artist setting that price, it is the fans who are willing to pay $1,000 for the commission.
