Dude I am so gonna try to do it!

It's really exciting isn't it??

I have been excited for this and my mom and I have been planning since like.....last year~

This year is suppose to be a rare phenomena that can't be captured by cameras, people keep reffering to it as "shadow snakes"[?], but I'm excited to try and catch some of what's going on either way and see the eclipse <3.

I'm in the PRIME state for it (best coverage view). Boss man is even letting us chill and watch it during our work day.

Thankfully, I live in the great state of Oregon, which is right in the path of totality! The upside is that I won't be paying a million dollars for a hotel room, but the downside is that I have to get up at around 8:00 AM to see the start of it

If you can land there it's a planet imo

That's a definition I guess. We've managed to land stuff on a comet though so it might be a bit overly inclusive.

there's a bit more to it, like being round from gravity, which totally makes landing easier btw.

I mean... I don't really need to travel? I'll be getting 95% totality from my front yard. My kids are going to be so, so freaked out, it'll be hilarious.

95% totality is a totally different experience.
It's hard to explain, but if you are so close, you should totally make a little trip to get into totality, You can only see the chromosphere during totality. and if there is a small sliver, it can damage your eyesight without eye protection.
95% totality is a bit deceiving because, in low light conditions, a small amount of light can make a huge difference: a typical household lightbulb is only 5% as bright as the sun.

I'll be flying out of DFW on Sunday. x3 I want to go see it so bad.. I'd have to drive 7hrs for totality though. Right after a busy business trip and a flight.. I dunno if I'll make it. I so want to though.

I'm going to be watching it..... But probably from the front yard or the TV coverage of it..... I'm not sure if I'll be able to see it....???? XD got any advice?????

https://eclipse2017.nasa.gov/sites/.....t/files/ga.jpg However the eclipse will be visible in the entire state of Georgia, but you will not see totality unless you are in the path (in the path of totality the moon 100% covering the sun, so you can see the chromosphere and a 360 sunset)
Try to get in the path if you can, the TV coverage will be pretty week tbh. Try to get out and see it for yourself, cameras cannot capture the real beauty of these things.

Things to look for: light shining through leaves will cast this weird rippling pattern, that isn't fully understood yet. If you make a pinhole camera, you'll be able to see the eclipse without damaging your eyesight. Don't look directly at the sun without eclipse glasses

I'm gonna be at about 80% here just north of tyler Texas, so I doubt I'll be going too far to see it, that and supposedly in about 7 years another one will happen where we will be in the path of totality.

i am near there too, but I don't think I'll still be living here in 7 years lol :(

I really want to... But i also start school then, so travel to the lower part of IL is impossible, so i think i will end up watching it on tv

if you're in the US at all, you should really go outside while it's happening, even a partial can be really cool

if you're so close you really should make the small journey into totality, it's the only place you'll ever be able to see the chromosphere.

Can't, I have class. They're breaking early from them to let us see the eclipse on campus, though. And we get the glasses for free.

I hope you don't get any clouds ^^ just remember the eclipse glasses are only for while it's approaching and leaving totality, when it's completely blocked you can take them off to see the corona :)
