Art help?
I've been pondering some of these questions lately, and it would be helpful if any of you could respond with your thoughts! Just look at it as a silly Q&A type of thing, feel free to answer any of it. I'm just curious.
- What is you favourite kind of art to commission?
- How do you feel about adult commissions? Gross/awesome?
- What do you dislike/like about my art?

- What is you favourite kind of art to commission?
To commission? Hmm.. Art that tells or illustrates a story, no doubt about it. If it inspires me to want to write? even better.
- How do you feel about adult commissions? Gross/awesome?
It really does depend on the nature of the work. There is a lot of gross and weird stuff out there that I find utterly unattractive. There are some very objectionable things out there that I really love. There are an awful lot of pictures that are purely based on the concept of "Hey look, Penis! Isn't it biiig?" Whilst they can be fun, it does get boring quite quickly.
Like I said before, tasteful and adult can work very well together :)
- What do you dislike/like about my art?
What do I like? The eyes :3 the EYES! and the general fluffyness your pictures kinda suggest :)
Dislike is a bit more difficult to place... Every one picture in a while, it just seems that sometimes the facial structure is a bit... off... But it's hard to tell why it seems that way... Not very helpful, I know :\ But, if there is a problem there, it'll clear up naturally with practice... And if there isn't? Good!
- Where should I improve?
Hmm.. Well, I'm no expert, so please take my advice with a pinch of salt. If anything, I would like to see you work on characters who are in motion more. A lot of your work seems very static, very carefully posed. Maybe see if you can get some real movement in your work, more difficult positions :3 Push the boat out and see if it floats!
But, with the stuff you already do? I like to think everyone has room to improve... *scratches head* I dunno, again, I get this feeling that there is something subtly out of place with some of the portraits you do, but I can't figure out what it is that's bugging me! Seems to be mostly in those half profile pictures you do... Perhaps grab a camera and photograph some folks pets for reference... Again, if there's something wrong there, you'll probably figure it out faster than I would :)
- Any tips? :3
Yes! Fingertips! *wiggles 'em* The only tip I can think of would be that if you can, get a camera with a tripod and a timer mode... If you don't mind making yourself look foolish on film, you can always have photographic reference in just about any pose you like! (obviously, less helpful with anthro portrait pictures)
Otherwise? Nothing springs to mind right now, but I'll be sure and say if I think up anything :)
I recognize that; the static-ness and careful execution, with something being slightly off at times. It has to do with the way I work. I never practice, so when I do draw I work until I am satisfied, losing the 'looseness' of what I'm drawing. This impacts the whole thing negatively, and I've recently been trying to let go of this need to do everything perfectly on the first try. I hope that by the end of the year I'm less uptight about the whole process; already I feel that the more I draw, the easier it gets. Perhaps studying comics more would help me get more motion into my work.
Your tips concerning getting my own stock references are something I hadn't thought of. At least, not about actively going out getting stock (I rely on pictures that I just happen to have taken). Once I'm back in Europe and around my own animals, this is definitely going to happen.
Maybe you should start trying 'speed art' if you think you're over working your pictures.
Comics could be an interesting path to take, but would you agonise over every panel?
Haha, I would indeed. What I more so meant is study the motion and fluidity with which they are filled.
But what I had meant with 'speed art' is to give yourself a time limit... Too short a time limit to get the full picture finished.
See how far you get in... Say, 20 minutes.
Capture the important parts, leave the details to the imagination ;)
Doesn't really work in every media though... Might be fun to try.
Again, thanks again for this input, it broadens my horizon and really does help. I've no one in real life to converse about art with, so these types of conversation are great.
*grins* Or, even worse, just draw from what you see, no references allowed ;)
I've got a family of artists, I'm the only one who doesn't really do visual art work... Heh :) I've got too many people to get opinions from xD
But at least I can pass on some ideas :)
- What is you favourite kind of art to commission?
i dont commission as i dont really have any monies ^^; but i really like art with alot of detail and small little details which stand out
- How do you feel about adult commissions? Gross/awesome?
i like the adult stuff, a sometimes just simple, nudity and sex are fine aslong as they're in good taste, without scat, vore, blood, death! yea, now thats gross
- What do you dislike/like about my art? i like all forms of art, you have your own style which is why i watch ^^ i cant really say what i do and dont like unless it speaks to me
- Where should I improve? you have your own style which i cant really say you have to improve on anything
- Any tips? :3
keep it up ^^ (and give some tips to me X3)
Full body or chest of fursona, coloured
- How do you feel about adult commissions? Gross/awesome?
I don't appreciate "adult" art in general, and generally consider commmissioning those to be silly, to say the least.
- What do you dislike/like about my art?
You draw eyes beautifully, and you're pretty good with facial expressions in general.
- Where should I improve?
1) I think you art would gain from having more detailed backgrounds.
2) In the few full body poses you have in your gallery, the head quite often seems to be slightly larger than it should. On the other hand, it might be just an impression I have, so don't take my word for it
- Any tips? :3
I don't draw, so I'm afraid I can't give you any valuable tips
Ai, backgrounds. I have little patience with backgrounds. Often I feel like they are not necessary, but that might just be laziness on my part. Art often vastly improves if an environment is added, though in my case I fear that it would ruin it due to my complete lack of competence.
I will keep my eye on the body/head ratio. Proportions are vital, and I am just now learning about them (have done very, very little full body work). Thank you!
- What is your favourite kind of art to commission?
I've done very few, but plan on getting some done as soon as I get a decent job! I love to commission pieces that are not just my character, but that character or those characters doing something that is a part of who I am, as well, along with their personae. If that makes sense...o.o;
- How do you feel about adult commissions? Gross/awesome?
The fetish part of these commissions always turns me off to them (inflation, scat, vore, all that fun stuff). A purely sexual pic is, while fun to fap to, just another picture in my folder (hey, just being honest!). What I love to see is the sexuality of a couple being paired with or complementing the emotion behind the act. for me, the most important part of a piece is the eyes, so if they're lifeless or nonexpressive, the art just turns me off.
- What do you like/dislike about my art?
As I said, my favorite part of any piece of any character is the expression in the eyes. If they don't have it, I don't like it. Yours are very expressive; also positive is your attention to detail pertaining to others' characters. Negative? Hrmm...you don't seem to have many full-body shots/animated shots. By the latter, I mean the characters doing things that would be active, like running (I see you have one, but...), jumping, playing, all that.
- Where should I improve?
Again, the motion of the characters. You've got headshots down pat; your array of portraits/icons/what have you is impressive. Now, you need to expand into the body. Hard to do, yeah, even for the most experienced of artists (I am NOT ONE OF THOSE; just a lion offering an opinion ^_^), but so very worth it in the end. The body is almost as important as the facial features of the character, too, when drawing them; it says worlds about their personality, who they are behind the mask, what they like or dislike, whether they have tons of good friends, anything you want it to say!
- Any tips? :3
Push yourself! I recently did a request that involved muscular furs; I'd never done them before, and, without this guy asking for it, would never have even THOUGHT of doing it. But, having to fulfill the request, I drew the picture. It was a pain, it was amazingly hard to find good references, to try and sketch the musculature in my style, but as I went, I found out more about the body than I thought I would. I found where certain muscles are, etc...I'll stop rambling about that. Anyway! Do something you don't think you can do. Find a fun pose that looks very difficult, and try your paw at it! It won't be perfect the first time, but you'll learn about the dynamics of the body, and get better and better!
Again, as I said, I'm not a pro artist; just one who's trying to grow. ^_^
Ditto on the eyes. I suppose I have always connected most with those myself, hence why they are a point of focus when I draw. I would actually go as far as to say that if I can't connect with the eyes of the character that I've drawn, I end up hating the picture.
The absence of full-body work is totally due to my own lack of confidence in executing them. The only time I draw them is when I get commissioned to do so - which is always a great opportunity. Like you said, pushing one's self is very important if you want to improve. Many of the things you see in my gallery are firsts actually (barring many portraits). Being a bit of a perfectionist is an occupational hazard I suppose, so I sometimes find myself slaving over the minor details, losing the 'life' of the bigger picture, literally. I do intend to do more full body work in the near future, a little fun on the side when commissions get slow.
usualy use myself as the subject and its con badges or stuff i can use as a desktop wallpaper
- How do you feel about adult commissions? Gross/awesome?
dont mind them, dont care, havent ordered any but i do look at them
- What do you dislike/like about my art?
i love your style and color choices, the palette is well adjusted for the pieces
- Where should I improve?
i cant tell you that, i dont draw..
- Any tips? :3
YES! draw more stuff! LOL
useless i know but its my answers
Thanks for the compliments, I'm glad someone notices my colouring - I've been trying to improve on that front for a while n_n.
- What is you favourite kind of art to commission?
A variety, really. I'm really drawn to the more unique stuff. I also tend to get smaller stuff like bookmarks, keychains, etc.
- How do you feel about adult commissions? Gross/awesome?
I've only gotten 1 before. Mostly because I can't show my friends the picture. I like showing off the artwork I buy. ^_^
- Any tips? :3
Have a variety of stuff. Some bigger, fancier stuff as well as some smaller stuff like keychains and all.
I plan on doing some bigger projects, definitely :3.
Basically, anything that's a little different from the normal.
Yeah anyways.
Haha.
Do what you wanna do. But your work is quite nice.
I will definately shuffle thru ur arts sometime soon. ^^
- What is your favorite type of art you commission?
I give commissions more often than I go off and get one done for myself . Actually Ive only paid for one commission ever . It was a Fanart picture of a personal character of mine with a character from on of my favorite shows . Done by Christy Lijewski manga artist of Re:Play , Doors , and Next Exit.
I absolutely loved her art and how she colored . Someones style and art has to really inspire me to want to commission someone .
SO yeah because of that Im more for just character renditions . If I commission its more so because I want to see my character done in their style more than anything.
- How do you feel about adult commissions? Gross/awesome?
Im not always a fan of adult material ^^; eventhough I will draw it for commissions I usually perfer not to do it if I dont have to . But I do find the ones that are tasteful or sweet and emotional really nice !
- What do you dislike/like about my art?
^^ Wow there are so many things that I like about your art ! First ad foremost YOUR COLORING XD It makes me drool . Secondly your lines ! smooth and crip XD I have a think for neat line work ! Lastly I love how you do your eyes , they make your characters just pop .
Dislike ... >.O thats a hard one . I dont know if there is anything I truly dislike about it ^^ Im still fawning over your coloring skillz lol . Your style of drawing is really flawless but the only thing I see that gives me a kind of off vibe is the lack of movment and emotion in your gallery as a whole . I dont really have room to judge though because I have the same issiue with my art . Its hard to break out of what we feel comfortable in and know will look good to try something wild and crazy that could end up looking like a disaster . But thats just how I feel about it with my art .
- Where should I improve?
Like I had mention above your style is wonderful , but I think if you added more movement your art would blow everyone else out of the water !
Adding perspective , and using different and unique lighting or working on different and odd angles .Also a background can really help out your art and make it just stand out . Not that Im saying to go and do some elaborate background , but sometimes just choosing the right solid color for your background can really work to your favor . But small things can help , like interesting borders , patterns , or lighting I think if you worked on those things a bit more they could really help .
- Any tips?
whatever Im lacking in my art I usually go looking for in other peoples art .. to see how I can better myself in that area . Just because I see it and how to fix it though dosnt always mean Im able to draw it ^^ But it still helps . Also I like to go to youtube and look at videos of artists who have recorded themselves drawing .It helps me see how they go about doing things and just inspires you to want to do other things and try new techniques and so on ... that and its just plain cool to watch . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6TqbjZZiA_A ( you might want to watch it in full view to really see all the detail )
She is one of my favorite artists ! and Ive really learned alot about coloring from watching her videos
Getting more motion/sense of movement going on is definitely something I'm trying to work on. That, and getting a better grasp on anatomy. It's all down to practice really. Thanks for all the compliments! I used to be terrible at colouring, so its is great to hear that others appreciate me trying to improve in that department.
Anatomy T_T I love it and hate it . I love it when I find I can get something right and hate it when it fights me . I found this one site a long time ago that actually had pictures of models for people to sketch and stuff . They even had some of just the human skeleton and muscles . They had close ups of the skull and different parts of the body . I dunno why I didnt keep tabs on it .. I was probably in a art slump and was all meh ... maybe later . But if I find it I'll send you a link !
But hey I looked around .. I havent found the original site .. But I found this one http://figuredrawings.com/linksanatomy.html at the top under that brown line his a bunch of links that take you to different parts of anatomy drawing . Its a bit old and outdated and not all the pictures you click on enlarge . But it still could help out
