so. ive been feelin like shit the past couple days so i treated myself to a lil $13 starter quill set that came with a quill, a small container of ink, and a small container of quill cleaner. and i put tip to ink to paper and i immediately fell irravokably in love
it was a magical moment, the second the ink began flowing smooth and thick. it sparked something in me that i think ive been neglecting for a long time. my love for traditional art.
since i started commissions, i went full digital as traditional was far more laborous and id have to regularly buy new materials. but this...this shall be just for me. my secret delight. im going to be an ink master
so that brings me to my questions
what quill heads aught i get in the future? i have a fine tip right now but i did see there were other types.
what is the best ink brand? i have a lil black one branded Dr.Ph. Martin's. it seems good to me but ive no frame of reference.
if i got a black sketchbook, could i get white ink and write on it? i dont know how ink seeps or soaks. so i dont wanna waste money and time if its not gonna show up on the black paper
and lastly. if you arent a Quiller anymore. might you still have ink laying around you dont use anymore?? ink is apparently like $9-12 per JAR. and i aint able to drop 50 bucks on a few jars of ink right this second. would you be willing to donate your old inkwells to someone new into the inkworld??
also, hints or other info i may need!

I got several from Brause . some from Leonardt.
For very fine writing and lineart I use a "Shakespeare" from Leonardt. It contains only little ink, but draws it out nicely. Also, splortches are near impossible, despite the sharp tip havign a tendency to get stuck in structured surfaces.
For writing loveletters I use a 1mm No 160 from Brause. It writes with a nice , light fraktura size-difference and glides well due to smoothened corners.
A bit more intense, but more scraty, is my Leonardt Round
For correspondence as well as larger scale drafts I use a Leonardt 400.
it has a freaking huge ink-capacity, but one has to stay calm and methodical, because it drips easily. It's flat-disc writing tip is somewhat exhausting to use as you have to retain your angle of attack. If you don't and run only on the side of the disc, it stops deliverign ink to the paper.
Or writing with waterresistant inks I use a Heintze & Blanckert , REDIS 1142 , as its easy to clean. It carries only small amounts of ink, and usually I need to refill for each word. The nagain, like all H&B, they have a nicely done writing point, which makes them glide super smooth.

I use inks from Pelikan and from Manuscript ; www.calligraphy.co.uk
