i love threads! for stuff sorta like this i guess i really like steve reich, i'm sort of a sucker for arpeggiation lol. he seems to have sort of mastered the mix of hypnotic and engaging that i rly like abt this music. i mostly listen to & play historical music tho tbh so my modern/contemporary music knowledge is sort of scattershot. some more recent stuff, i like arvo part, philip glass, john adams, brian eno, stuff like that. i'm sure there's more, i always forget somebody! hit me with any recs you have tbh

do u know much about indian classical? it's my favourite kind of singing! it's mostly improvised within a set scale (usually heptatonic) and focuses on slides and ornamentation since it's 100% melodic with no harmonic progression. there's way more to it than that but it's a cool framework to just play around in. here's a fav. there's no standard notes in ICM so translated into EU solfege the scale for this one is basically DO RE mi FA SO LA ti where lowercase = flats

There is music from many countries I know little to nothing about but would like to, so anytime you or someone has links like these I am incredibly grateful. I wouldn't know as much as I do about music today if not for interacting with many other music fans with either wider-reaching tastes or differently focused tastes.

In short, I had no idea about this style, but I liked it! Maybe it helps that he sings in a range I could emulate, hehe.

lol! yeah ymo's paraiso album is basically some of the best pop-ish type stuff i've ever heard. 'tokio rush' is just way too fun. his bollywood album is pretty cool but tbh i'd rather just listen to bolly/tollywood lol. i have to check out more yukihiro tbh. that lansky album is great, i especially like 'table's clear'. the track u posted is great like just city pop 80's fun time.
