Its sad that war has reached the same space in time from us now that WWII has from us when armchair specialists started making documentaries about that war and giving a topical slanted view over and over again. They either glorify the fallen and forget about the depth of their sacrifices or vilify their efforts to justify their own agendas. Burns in particular has found the way in inject a depressing attitude in every work I had to watch for some class that a professor wanted a report on.
There are highs, horrors, and some down time and laughs that happen in war. Something that video games do not cover, and couch combatants will never learn.
exactly so... there is no reset. I'm guessing the professor was a left winger with an agenda...
Both my parents were in WWII and most of their friends were too. Mostly they only spoke about the funny things. They never spoke about the tragic. My father denied ever being under 'real' fire and yet I found a newspaper clipping sitting atop a naval gun emplacement they had to charge.
Yeah I can relate. While there are so many things i can and do remember of combat I like to think about the funny moments and some of the dumb things that happened. Ill note you with a funny story
On a personal note, I am glad your parents made it back. This world would not be the same with out you.
*shudders...
