TFWO - A Synopsis

...Totally Fuckin Weirded Out
This is my overview of the Pokemon ranch life AU I'm starting. I have multiple AUs for roughly the same group of characters, and for whatever reason, this one is my latest. Be gentle. It's an outline, so it doesn't exactly read like a story or a script, and is highly subject to change at my whim.
Max has an ex-mate in this one (in the previous she was dead, and the one before that Jolt was created in vitro, so no mate was needed). The two of them got together young, and ultimately grew apart. They split up about 2 years after Jolt was born, with Max going to live with Stern on her ranch, as a ranch hand and electrical wrangler. The two electabuzz no longer really get along and are always tense around each other. She thinks of him as lazy and noncommittal, and he thinks of her as demanding and reactive.
Stern the human owns a ranch in a dry, volcanic region resembling eastern Oregon (somewhere in Alola?). In her fields are many wind turbines and a couple large banks of solar cells. Sharing the fields are livestock that she raises, utilizing the local breeding center for reproduction (much easier and only a little more expensive than natural breeding). She is also a small-time moisture farmer (using fog fences and an evap/compressor unit over the stock pond), mostly providing for her ranch, but selling back any excess to the water district. She hires Max to help with the electricity specifically, and other ranch chores in general.
Max grew up in a rural area (another constant across AUs thus far) and knows a bit about farm life. His first job was in his neighbors’ stables, but the ability to work with electricity was the main reason he applied to work for Stern, as it is just intuitive for him. He and Jolt live in a cozy shack on Stern’s land, just down the dirt road from the main house, near the machine shop and barn.
Jolt spends part of her time with Max and part of it with her mother, who lives in the nearby city. Her birth was unplanned, as Max and his former mate had a tendency to get wasted and had an incident during one of her heat cycles (normally very easily avoidable, but they didn’t have the best judgement at the time). They both quit partying upon learning that she was pregnant and put their focus into raising Jolt. However, with the added stress, their difficulties with each other were magnified, and they broke up when Jolt was only two years old.
Roughly a year after moving to the ranch Max meets Hertz, who lives in town and works for the local power company (as in the first AU). Both are instantly fascinated by one another, as they often don’t see a lot of their kind out in the world. After running into each other a couple times, they get to talking at the bar one night, and eventually begin dating. Max is attracted to her warm, steady demeanor and is fascinated by her past (he would never want to be a fighter himself, but nonetheless he is impressed by her abilities).
A typical day on the ranch starts with feeding the stock. Max rides in the back of Stern’s truck, bucking hay, while she drives the pastures, and her growlithe helps spread the feed that Max throws. After that, there are stalls to muck, machines to tend, repairs to be made, and of course, the generators. Jolt loves to watch Max work with electricity, and the two of them often spend their afternoons together in the machine shop, or even out at the turbines or solar cells assessing flow rates and absorptive efficiencies (Max does the measuring and Stern does the math).
Before working for the power company, Hertz was part of a competitive battling team (as in all AUs - especially the Thunderdome one), but ultimately gave it up after an injury, having decided that she needed a slower pace of life. However, small town life had left her somewhat bored, which is part of why she was initially drawn to Max (and the local bar). She hadn’t had time for relationships before, and now realized that such a thing might be just what she needed to try. When she meets Jolt, and gets to know Max’s paternal nature, she falls in love with him.
While talking about his ex to Hertz, Max reveals that he would have liked to have had more children, and that it was a shame that his relationship with his daughter’s mother had ended. This is when Hertz first begins giving any serious thought to having a family, as she had been focused on her work for her entire adult life thus far, and hadn’t considered it beyond donating DNA the breeding centers.
After a year together, Hertz moves in with Max, although she continues working in town. After some time, they talk again about elekids and plan to make one during her next heat, thus producing Volt. A couple years later, Bolt is also born.
Other characters: Aska the infernape is also a former member of Hertz’s old team, and lives in the city. Ingot the lucario works at the town library. Zuckerman (emboar), Makana (human), Omar (human), and Stoney (machoke) are other town residents.
