I had a stalker who con security were told to keep an eye on(there's a different one at every con) follow me to my room and get in before I could close the door on him.
Thankfully I rushed out of my room pretty fast but it was terrifying.
I've only been to one con, Califur, earlier this year. I was suiting as my Nickelodeon cow ( http://www.furaffinity.net/view/25112623/ ) and was sitting on a bench resting for a bit when this guy comes up to me to compliment my boyfriend's suit. He praises me for the work I did on the suit and then tells me that he 'doesn't support' my cow and started making fun of me.
Another guy assumed I was racist because of my Mac Tonight tattoo in the same day so I was kinda done with people at that point lol.
Oh man, what the hell?
People can be so cruel sometimes. It reminds me of going out in fursuit my first and last time in public- some blonde girl came up to me just to say "I DON'T LIKE YOUR COSTUME" and walked off.
What a weird reaction to have to someone having fun. I don't get it.
Went to mff last year and the roommate was my husband's best friend. He didn't pay us back until a month or so ago for his portion and berated us every time we asked him about it. He only payed us half of what he owed then told my husband never to speak to him again.
Went to a train station to meet up with a fox, I didn't know how he looked like, just had an old photo. I pulled up my car near a guy who seemed to be similar and opened a door, saying "Hop in!". The guy came close and then the guy next to him also opened rear doors, and the 1st guy said: "Can my friend come too"?
At that moment two ambiguous thoughts arised in my head, as I was left speechless:
a) Fox is actually 10 years older, and he wants us to have group sex with this unknown 40-something friend of his. That sounds extremely hot but...
b) This isn't fox, I'm picking the wrong guy.
Thanks to the sane part of my mind, I replied: "Wait, aren't you (Fox's real name)?" to which he replied "Nope, umm, maybe you wronged me with someone else?" And by that the most awkward situation in my furry life ended peacefully.
HAHAHA Holy shit! Imagine what would've happened if you didn't say anything? That's crazy lmao. Definitely one of the more entertaining stories I've read
They were hitch-hiking from one town to another
Because the local bus system was shitty and tickets kinda expensive. Socialism sucks when not implemented properly! Also crime rate in the country was several orders of magnitude lower than, let's say, 70s America where there was an axe murderer behind every other corner. So I didn't find it unusual.
At my first anime con i went too, some guy was standing in public wearing a collar with leash, and held a sign in his mouth that said "willing pup looking for a master ^-^" and like. I wanted to Die on the spot.
Like dude, im into collars and shit too, but.... can you not do that in a PUBLIC con space where there are gonna be minors???? Dhhfjsncnxn
Fortunately I didn't have any creeps or anything- But the worst was when my younger cousin persuaded me to drive him to a local free con for younger teens in august, used to be all the rage when I was in Jr High/Highschool, so me being the nice cousin I am agreed. Mistake.
I figured I was gonna be like, a chaperone sorta, follow them and make sure things are chill.
Well, they literally ditched me for their friends who I had no idea were going, and left me surrounded by a bunch of teens and children at an extremely small, crowded place, in a library.
And of course, I couldn't just leave because I was my cousin's ride.
Several hours of awkwardly standing around because I'm an adult and don't know any of these highschoolers/middleschoolers...
Also the ONE food truck they had only sold fish sticks, and I'm allergic to most fish.
At my very first curry con, a guy spiked my drink and then took advantage of me.
I almost never returned, sometimes I still wonder if I would have been right to just not go back the next year or any since, as it has always been..... Akward. Nice other people but.... I dunno... I tried to get help but no one would listen and while people are nice there, it's just,.... As you said in another reply, furries can be very akward to interact with? I guess I just do not have enough in common to be able to get past that initial barrier. People mention names and expect me to know exactly who they are talking about, when I have no idea who any of them are, or they are talking excitedly about some room party at anthrocon or something or some other very specifically furry subject t and I just blank out because I do not have the proper frame of reference to onow what they are speaking of, or some other reason.
It makes the whole experience a painfully strange one, where they are all very nice but I just do not.... Feel like I even should be there, and there is always that Spectre of that happened the first time I went hanging over my head.
I'm sorry, I went to respond and ended up ranting instead. My apologies.
As soon as I try to talk with a native english speaker my self-confidence gets a major hit.
So, there was this guy from England I was chatting with and one day we happened to be at the same con.
We met and I was stumbling, switching accents and with every mistake I grew more and more nervous.
It was a disaster.
The next day I wanted to redeem myself and spotted him in a group, but the moment I reached them
I simply couldn't say anything - I stood there for a few minutes like a creep until I left; - defeated.
The embarrassment haunted me for a while and it never stopped beeing awkward near that dude after years.
But that's really it! I had a lot of luck with my cons so far. :3
I feel the same way trying to speak German around Germans. Thankfully all of you seem to speak spectacular english with more grammatical accuracy than most native speakers! :P
I was creeped on by that ShadoWolffess dude at the first furry con I went to. He followed me around the computer room talking about how much he liked his dog's "tailholes" and showing me his awful porn art.
When I finally managed to escape I went right back to my room and made sure I didn't wander around with out a friend anymore. I think he wound up getting banned for creeping at so many people.
There was that con where I signed comics with friends. Our booth wasn't well placed and we were pretty far from AC units. It was about 110° every day of the con.
This years anthrocon, and completely through my own fault at that.
I decided it was a good idea to have a very generous amount of wine, and to follow that up with some vodka mixers after. The only time I can ever recall feeling more sick than that was a bad edible experience.
I was at EuroFurence and was given a compliment on a collar I was wearing from someone I didn't recognize. I curtly thanked them and brushed off the compliment before hurriedly returning to my friend group. I realized after the fact that the complimenter was one of my favorite artists and I'd missed the opportunity to strike up a conversation with them.
I was at my first and only con so far, and it was the last day of the con. I was approached by a dude who tried to talk with me, and then somewhere in the conversation he broke it to me that he thinks im hot and he's had "no action" during the whole con. This got me so distraut, and in a very very bad way, I had to run away from him to the bathroom and throw up because I had a panic attack. He wouldn't stop following me around and trying to get me to go home with him, and I just didnt know what to say. Come to find out my friends had similar experiences with him and that he really is a predator
Some people can't fathom the concept of having one single lover, and simply refuse to expect that concept, anyone is a potential addition to their collection. Theres a deadly sin for that, it's called lust (im not religious btw)
The worst thing that ever happened was that one of the people I went with decided that his spontaneous "alone time" was more important than unlocking the door and letting in someone having an anxiety attack. I wasn't doing very well, and all I could do was sit outside the room staring at the carpet. He eventually flung the door open and stormed out a half hour later pissed off because how dare I interrupt him and demand to be let into my room. Had the audacity to bitch me out for it later. That was the moment I realized he wasn't much of a friend and we parted ways soon after that. I'm a LOT more selective about who I bunk with these days.
I haven't had anything terrible, but one time I roomed with some people to save money, but there were 5 of us and only 2 beds. The guy I ended up sharing a bed with kept rolling over and throwing his arm over me. I had a hard time sleeping.
I (and I know I'm *far* from the only one) have been hit on multiple times by Greg The Husky and Aquafox, and both have been thankfully banned from cons I attend, for hitting on furiends of mine. Very awkward.
mm, fwa2016 was probably my worst con in general from anything ive been to
i was kinda a douche and had my head up my abusive exes ass, which made me loose out on fun cause i was following him around like a puppy instead of... having fun lol
which in turn made my wife miserable
we also lost out on some $$$ for that con cause ppl who were gunna room with us didnt at the last minute (which was nice to have a room to ourselves but took a lot out of our pockets)
and i didnt sell anything at that con >:(
BUUUUT we also got in a care crash on our way back to the hotel after stopping at hobby lobby on the first day of that con lol
we werent hurt to bad(wife got some bad bruises :( ) but the car was totaled and we had to get bus tickets home
were also left w some ptsd from that
Definitely not anything like what some people in the comments have to say, but I do have a worst experience and I'd have to say it was probably IFC 2015.
Despite being the convention of my home city and one that I've been excited to attend for a while, it was really underwhelming. The venue is laid out poorly, the hotel is overpriced and janky, no one really seemed to want to talk to eachother... Artist's alley was dinky, dealer's den was the only redeeming factor of that whole convention. By the end of it I just wanted to go home.
My first ever AC I had a GirlFriend (after years of being single) and best friend who I had just met for the first time in person before the con after talking to him for a while beforehand, and the two of them ended up hitting it off and kind of hooking up and then basically dumping me for each other afterwards, which was super awkward because they were both staying at my house for a day afterwards. I was really upset about it. I actually don't really care about cheating, I am in open relationships most of the time, but she adamant about not having an open relationship. And clearly this was more than cheating, they picked each other over my feelings. I still had fun though.
Also had a two cons where I got so drunk and sick I ruined the entire con for myself, that was no good. Looking back, it might have been partially from a wheat allergy I didn't know about.
I got sick the Friday morning of TFF 2015, before we went up to Dallas. Kinda just got stuck in the room most of the time honking into a bunch of tissues.
Met with some online friends halfway to the con to ride in the rest of the way. Found they didn't believe in showers, and their van didn't have A/C. The room was supposed to have just four people in it, but actually had nine. While wandering around the con in sandals, I missed a step and managed to tear off my big toe nail. While laying on the floor of the room that night, someone /additional/ came in and stepped right on it. A room full of sweaty, dirty people and a foot full of pain, and that was just the first day. It only went downhill from there.
Runner up: the FurFright that occurred just after I found my husband was cheating on me. I found another room to stay in for obvious reasons, got stiffed on the room costs from the people that stayed with him. Awkwardness throughout the con from mutual friends, again, for obvious reasons.
MFF last year I was asked to go to a specific hotel room number. This individual gave me the wrong hotel room number (2 digits were backwards)
I got to the incorrect room and the room was propped open so I thought I was at the right place, I enter the room and 3 50-somethings were around a bed of two suits going at it and two of them immediately saw me and started yelling really loud. I was threatened with banishment from the con (one of them was staff) for "barging into a room" even though the door was not locked and it was an honest mistake. I remember apologizing like 5 times before they let me be on my way without calling the police or whatever. It was quite a mistake...
TL;DR knock even if the door is wide open. Every time.
We were at a small hotel about 5 minutes away from the con when somebodies room close too ours was raided by the police. Next thing I know. The police start going door to door telling everyone to come out with their hands up. We sat their waiting in the parking lot for an hour and a half while they searched everyone's shit. Apparently the guy who's room was raided was swatted by some punk kid and me and seven other people were dragged into their bullshit. Once we were cleared, we were allowed to go back to our rooms.
Thankfully I rushed out of my room pretty fast but it was terrifying.
at least he wasn't too creepy or anything
Another guy assumed I was racist because of my Mac Tonight tattoo in the same day so I was kinda done with people at that point lol.

Seriously I have someone grope me in suit at almost every con. Same with people not taking “no I’m not interested” for an answer.
