The weather is shot, no more exploring in this weather, we got 8inches of snow the other day. Me and snow are no. Oh, and Thor is a great movie, go see!
Snow is a bad thing here (for us at least) kids in school love it, if we get over two inches or so, its major panic for the public municipalities of the area. Schools close, roads go to poo, and driving is just hell for anything shy of a lifted 4wd. Us, we've got an econo ride thats sipping 40mpg is comfortable, but not a snow-blazing wee beastie. Its great for $20 fillups. Its a great all weather but snow commuter car. So, no snow is perfered for us. If we want snow, its an hour's drive up to the mountains, they are close, and there's enough snow to go around, even in summer if we went for a hike.
If I wanted snow, I'd take a drive and find it. Maybe a bobcattie, but not a snow loving kitty!
I always thought of the Pacific Northwest to be mostly fog and rain, and it rarely snowed till you hit the Cascades.
Kind of like NYC almost never has snow on the ground at Christmas, even though it gets cold enough to (the proximity of the Atlantic tends to hold back the white stuff till about late January, but even so it usually takes in excess of 20" of snow to truly bring this city to a standstill
snow is a relative rarity at sea level. I'm a lofty 98feet above the tide line where I live. The neighborhood actually has weekly Tsunami Warning tests out of the local fire station, so to get snow this low down is not something most of our area is prepared for. In my particular area we get some dire cold snaps, as we have sorta a current that shoots straight from the arctic via the Frasier River Valley. Its a funnel of cold and wind. The 'fog and rain' is more south of us, here its just cold and rain and wind.
I am pretty far up the Pacific Northwest category being a mere 20minutes from the Canadian border.
I think the county has maybe 4 snow plows and they mainly clear the major interstate and the route up to our local popular ski-area. Everyone else sorta flounders until there are enough pile-ups to warrant a sander truck to visit that neighborhood. Have to have at least 5 cars in the ditch to warrant any attention from the county, sorta amusing really, but as you can imagine, its a serious pain in the ass to even get to work. As for public transit, thats a joke unfortunately. I can pick up a 'city bus' probably 10miles up the road maybe.
Winter sucks for us to say the least.
Luckily the snow I mentioned, only lasted a few days, and lately its only been coldcoldcold!
