I respect that some artists are uncomfortable with it, but part of me wonders what specifically has them feeling so. Simply not wanting to be saught after for such commissions? Are they made uncomfortable by an attraction they don't understand/share? Is it more personal than that and they believe we'd ascend upon their art like a pack of horny freaks leaving comments of paw jobs and kinky desires?
The answer to your second musing... well, that's tricky, because I think it varies for every artist. From having spoken with many over nearly two decades now, a lot of things come up. For some, drawing something that they have no interest in, or even dislike is just... draining. For others, the overall "story" behind an image is a lot more important than a single fetish-y aspect of it. Others still prefer the majority of their public works to show a certain theme or only be SFW. I mean the reasons could probably fill a page and still only cover a portion of the whole.
I think that's why it's always best to discuss something with an artist, and get their personal take on it. The best kind of commission that I can give to an artist is one that really interests their muse. If that works out to be something I also want and enjoy - then all the better.
I like that the interview is something that helps her clarify how she likes drawing paws (if they're part of an image) so people can know what sort of image and scene she enjoys working on, rather than just wanting a paw-centric piece. I mean heck, even super-duper-paw-loving people like Sera sometimes don't wish to be a paw-centric artist. For some artists, the sum of the image has to be about more than just paws. :)
Anyare's featured work for this entry is my favorite I think - I like the energy captured in the badges; such a fun way to capture the characters, both in design and personality!
And yeah, funny theme to that one too. :P
Yeah, that was an epic score - and ditto; Kacey has long been one of my favourite artists, and one of the very few I watched not because of paws - that she drew amazing ones ended up being a happy coincidence. She is astoundingly talented.
And yep, I get exactly what you mean. XD Her artwork is astonishing. ^^
And yar, the sheer detail work is amazing in her fully rendered pieces.
