Got around to watching Season 2. I'm not going to spoil anything, but I felt it was a little shorter and less eventful than the first season. Which was odd since Season 2 actually had more episodes.
Its just with Season 1, there was a build up with who is Eleven, where is Will, how to find The UpsideDown, and the climax. It developed the relationships with every character and the world around them and it felt like each character had their own little stories that slowly connected to the overall events.
Season 2 felt like all the characters were all related to one single event and most of their stories revolved around this one mystery. So the story felt a little basic. Like rather than having their own little stories that have their ups and down, they were holding off for one big climax. It just made most of the episodes in between feel a little empty. That and I'm not a fan of Shadow Monsters. Feels a bit too easy as a monster design.
Also Max felt tacked on.

Season 2 has some big things left out for the next season, but I think that stuff kinda ruins the story. Like instead of being resolved, it relies on the next story. Although it's pretty garentee that we'll get a third season, think it shouldn't rely on it too much.
Also just a minor nitpick. I liked how the first season mirrors their Dungeons and Dragons game. Season 2 doesn't use it as often until they use the Mind Flayer analogy. But hearing the directors, that was kinda a last moment idea.
