I would think that the title of the day makes what its about clear.

I day to remember those taken by violence for simply being themselves. These were not things done out of any kind of justice. Just acts fueled by Hate, Prejudice, and Ignorance. Sweet and promising lives ended before their time. Treasures removed from this world by people who'd gladly see their light snuffed out.

This is a day born of the need and desire to remember these. To look back upon those painful moments and learn from them. To also remember those people with love and caring. The love we held for them in life and still hold onto them during their afterlife.

While I've never known any of those slain personally. I mourn for them, as their final moments in this word were colored by this evil. I love all that were as if they were my own. I hope I get to meet them and show it to them personally in the other world when I pass as well.
