Anyone know any good job openings?
I am wanting to have some extra money to try to live a bit more normal life, go to conventions, get healthcare and just have a few nice things, but I'm not really sure how the formal job getting process works, as I've never had much luck with it. I haven't ever been able to get any professional jobs or internships, so I really don't have that kind of experience.
At this point I really want to work on something furry related, and something with a flexible schedule, perhaps work from home if possible.
My best skills are:
2D art and design
I have been doing this professionally for a few years now, and have taken a few courses in college on design and painting.
Game Development
This was the main focus of my college education. I have worked on a couple Indy teams, and I have a good grasp of the entire process from coming up with an idea, coding from the ground up, level design, game mechanics and ux design, and asset creation and integration.
Programming
When I was in learning game dev, coding was a must have skill. My main focus ended up being C# in visual studio, but I am competent in most of the popular languages too.
I haven't been able to study game design or programming as much I'd like to, and only have been able to do it really as a hobby the past few years.
Income wise I'm hoping for something at least 50k/yr.
I'm not sure exactly what I want to do, but as long as it hits on at least one of these skills, it would be enjoyable to me.
Thanks for reading all this. If you have any good advice or leads for me, let me know.
^^ Thanks

oh dont we all. those things are a luxury for most.
Get a line in with any job seeking companies around your area, they CAN have contacts and have a sort of idea where some openings are. Thats what helped me, although my job is far from ideal i was just taking what i could get at the moment.
If youre still somehow on good terms with your college (if its in the same area heh) you can also check them out, my college has always had a job offerings wall and it was always full of things from well known businesses
If not.. surprisingly; newspapers! People still put job listings in the newspaper believe it or not.
Theres always websites too but i find the chance of getting a job off a job seeker website is slim.
A job where I get to use my art skills would be ideal and is likely my best bet, since it's what I am best at.
Thanks for the ideas on where to look, though. I'll try to widen my search :3
I drive part time, and it supports me and leaves me lots of time to do art (if I wasn't so lazy :<). Union job, health benefits, starting pay was 16 an hour, went up to 29 an hour.
Sounds like you'd rather be doing something related to your current work and experience, however.
Best of luck, Auntie! ;>

A decent to high paying job which you loathe and it slowly eats away your soul. You only do it because it pays bills and affords your hobbies which keeps your sanity where it's supposed to be. ( I fall into this camp )
or
A low paying job which you love and they can't pry you away from it, but can be tough to make ends meet. Usually has financial stress associated with it but you don't care because you're happy 24/7.
OR
The extremely rare job is both high paying and one you like, but usually only comes after working a lifetime and your skills are so legendary that your employer keeps throwing buckets of money at you to entice you to stay just a bit longer. ( or you have become a celebrity level professional artist who can command whatever price they want for a commission. Your minion hordes will pay anything you ask. )
All that said:
Where we live, your best bet at a $50k+ starting position is likely going to be in the coding department. However, that will fall into the type of work that I am all too familiar ( I'm IT routing / switching ) with so I'm not sure how happy you'll be and / or how much time it would leave you for art. Coders are notorious for working stupidly long hours and consuming vast amounts of caffeinated beverages.
Unrelated to your stated interests, but recently bestowed information to me while on vacation freezing my ass off in the Rocky Mountains last week:
Ran into a friend of mine who left the company a few years ago to work as an Airline Flight Attendant. According to him, he makes decent pay ( Starting pay is ~$21 / hour I think, with ~$30 / hour in 3-4 years ) and works three days a week. If you don't mind the travel time away from home, it's decent pay, benefits, etc. and you still have four days to do as you will.
Just a thought in case you want to expand your job search a bit.
