Aboriginal Folklore: The Yara-ma-yha-who
How have I never heard of the Yara-ma-yha-who before.
These awesome cryptids resemble a small, frog-like man with red fur, a very big head and a large mouth with no teeth; and suckers on the ends of it's hands and feet.
It attacks by attaching those suckers onto your flesh that drain your blood, and once weakened, it unhinges its mouth and swallows you whole.
Over time, it then repeatedly regurgitates and swallows you, where you grow smaller and redder, until turning into a Yara-ma-yha-who yourself.

You have to wonder if this was done to keep their kids from wandering out into the wilderness because you know, all those deadly snakes, spiders and crocodiles, isn't scary enough.
Think we should stick with Wolpertingers and Bunyips.
