Saw this posted to a mailing list I'm on today. Thought it quite poignant. Though, as I understand it, the Australian army lets openly gay soldiers serve - so we have it a little better in that respect.

Having worked on a naval base in a subcontracting basis, though - it is an ego boost having men (and women) in uniform calling you Sir.

I've never seen any problems with granting homosexuals equal rights such as legal unions and what not, but then again I'm just one person and that does not account for much.
