Considering skipping AC this year... Should I go or not?

Oookay. Here's the deal.
I enjoy going to AnthroCon.
But this year, two of the people I hang out with most will not be attending. These are the people I hang out with (and chat with) with more than anyone else during con time. And if they're not going to be there.... well. I'll basically be wandering aimlessly and alone for the whole con, from room to room and kind of "winging it" with my social activities.
It's not like I'd NOT TALK to anybody during the con. But I would BASICALLY be going there all alone and hanging mostly with total strangers. Without my special buddies, I tend to miss out on things, since they're basically the ones who talk a skinflint like me into spending money to have a good time. (I was raised to never pay more than $10 for a meal, even when eating out) Plus, we don't get to show our souvenirs to each other.
I've also been curious about other conventions, so I'm wondering if I should skip AC this year and go to MFF or FC or even a Canadian con.
Seems like a good set of reasons not to go. But...
My only PROBLEM with not going this year, is that well... I'm worried that people who wanted to meet me in person will be disappointed and sad. That's about the only thing keeping this from being a simple, easy decision.
...... What do you guys think? I won't be heartbroken if I miss AC for myself. But I don't want my followers to feel like I don't care about them enough to show...
What should I do? :(
EDIT: I've decided not to go this year. Several MORE of my friends I contacted aren't going either. Half the reason I go to AC is to catch up with friends in person. :(

But even tho You might be alone at first at AC, you should go !
New friends are always welcome in convention!. Thats where i met my crew. now we hangout on weekends out of the furry world. but true that, id be really sad to not see them in a convention. But ! traveling alone is also a great and rich experience with yourself !. Its something to be really proud of ! (yes, a convention is like traveling in a way XD ) AC is soo big ! you wont feel alone! you might become friend with some popy-fur ! of with some awesome artist !
youll meet all the Quebecois Popy fur ! You wil meet Kabier and Jasonafex !!
We will make you smoke and drink till you pass out ! Toronto is a big and pretty town !

to me it the spot I can relax and be happy.
other cons might be mff like you said though i dont think chicago in nov is a pleasant vacation. texas furry fiesta but thats in like 2 weeks. also big little fur con seems to be a growing con in reno nevada.
