Updates on Life
Hay guys, just thought I'd give you all a little update on what I've been up to.
As some of you may know, I have been looking to buy a home (in between work and school that is). And, well, I've pretty much been doing that and not much else.
It's been quite a bit of an emotional roller-coaster looking for houses, going between things looking pretty promising and it looking like a lost cause, sometimes transitioning between the two multiple times within the same hour. It's really bloody exhausting!
I've been going around looking at quite a few houses with my agent every weekend, finding that most of them are complete garbage in need of demolition while being outrageously priced. Also, as it turns out, the city is quite a crappy place, no matter where you go, and if I want to get a house in one of the few nicer neighborhoods, I'd have to spend around half a million dollars to get it! And I simply can't afford that.
So anyway, after looking at several houses, having the ones I was interested in run into problems making them impossible for me to purchase, and the others simply being pathetic, we actually found a house today that shows potential! Sure it's in a relatively shitty part of the city, but it has lots of living space, plenty of room for a roommate or even two, it has a decent yard with plenty of space for my dog, and it even has a shop! There is quite a bit of work to be done to it, the biggest thing being the roof needs to be rebuilt, but to be honest, that's actually not as bad as some of the other houses I've seen. (they've seriously been that bad)
With everything considered, I've decided to go ahead and put an offer on the house! I'm gonna meet with my agent tomorrow to go through the paperwork and compose my offer to submit to the seller.
Now, I'm gonna try not to get my hopes up, as I will require the seller to do some repairs so the house can make it through escrow, as well as any repairs that the appraiser might demand done, so that I don't end up with tens of thousands of dollars of repair costs. Because of that, there is a good chance the seller will tell me to screw myself. However if the seller DOES accept my offer, then hopefully in a few months, I'll be living in a house of my very own! (seriously, the process to buy a house nowadays is complicated as hell, and a royal pain in the ass!)
In the meantime, I'm gonna continue to look for other potential homes, and ask my agent to do the same, just in case this one falls through, or we come across something even better.
Aside form that, I've been slowly getting things together for my Sunburst cosplay for this year's BABS Con. Not sure if I told you guys about that.
So far, I got the glasses, and some white gauntlet gloves and fabric for a cloak and shirt. Hopefully this weekend, I will be able to get started on actually making my garments, as the convention is approaching fast. basically, I was gonna make Sunburst's cloak, and then make a renaissance style shirt (like this one) that will match Sunburst's coat color, then have the white gauntles style gloves and glasses to look a little more like him. Althought I'm not sure what to do about my leggings. (can't exactly do bluejeans). Perhaps a renaissance style trousers? But I'm not sure what color. Maybe have the trousers match the cape? I donno, but I'm gonna try getting the shirt and cloak done first, and then I'll worry about the trousers. I got too much to think about right now as it is!
Perhaps when I get the cosplay done, I'll upload a picture of it so you guys can see?
Anyway, that's all the news I got for now. Wish me luck on the house hunt, and also on my cosplay, but mostly the house hunt. I'm definitely gonna need it. ^^;

House prices here are insane not even the recession back in 2008 had much of an impact. There are some areas where houses are cheap but they are usually places where nobody want's to live.
Like one house I saw, the seller was asking $110, 000 for it, but the foundation was cracked and lopsided, the floors were all rotted out, the walls were all cracked, there was obvious mold, and the location was horrible! Even my agent couldn't believe it was even on the market at all, let alone for over $100K. He actually told me that property was actually worth closer to $4000. I told him it was due to be demolished.
And as it turns out, most of the houses we looked at, the sellers were asking for over double the value of the property because they were in such sorry states, as well as being in unfavorable locations. But my agent told me that some people, for whatever reason, would rather their house remain empty and rot rather than lower the price to a reasonable amount, or do the needed repairs to get the house through escrow.

That's one reason I'm trying so hard to get myself a house now, because I know the market is going to rise soon. Not to mention that the government is going to pass a bunch of new laws and regulations to make it even harder to purchase or even sell a property next year, and seem to do that every year.
(fun fact, if I want to add a carport to my property, I would need to get a permit, which would require an inspection, and the inspector could demand that I upgrade my toilets and sinks in order to build a carport over my driveway. How ridiculous is that?)
Now, if I tried to find a house in the bay area, or down in LA, then these houses would probably be reaching the 1 to 2 million dollars, and they would very likely have smaller yards.
Did I miss the story where you won in the lottery?
I unfortunately don't have enough money to buy a house outright, as doing that would be insanely cheaper, (like $130,000 cheaper), but I decided that it'd be better to pay interest on my own house rather than rent a place, and wind up paying for someone else's house.
I realy love ya, and the long discussions we had!
