Concerning The Shape of Water, a lot of interesting videos about "monstrous" love interests have been popping up on YouTube. I know a lot of people of color and LGBTQ people identify with monsters as they are both often characterized as something dangerous or disfigured. But in the past few decades, media has portrayed them in a more sympathetic light. It's okay to celebrate monsters instead of shunning them.

For example, pets. I'm more openly loving to an animal than I am to the people around me.
A good amount of people I've met only see animals as mindless brutes. Which is depressing.
Calling something that can do many of the things we can an empty husk.
But that is only part of it. There is also physical attraction as well.
I myself have many fantasy husbandos.
