A critic I like said Once Upon A Time In The West has the best soundtrack ever written. Hope you dig it.

Also, yeah the music was GREAT! It was totally a character in itself...best ever, I don't know. But speaking of sphagetti westerns you have to see Miike + Tarantino's exploitive take on them in "Sukiyaki Western Django." Not a great movie, but definitely bad ass, funny, and overall an cool time :)

Those are real jobs that are easy to get and definitely improve your chances of moving up or getting new work! The city sucks ass (esp compared to Vancouver) but the amount of creative work is unparalleled. Well, Vancouver gets tons of film work, too. Maybe you should get some work there first to build up a resume/connections?

There was a girl in my photo class who worked as a set decorator on a bunch of local things and she said that her and everyone she knew in film said that the thankless tiny jobs like that mostly just lead to more thankless tiny jobs and that's it and would not help toward any creative goal. *shrug* but, fuck, i dunno, maybe Vancouver is a god place to stay, although I've never seen a Canadian film that actually is much more than okay. :c but i dunno, either of you people might have a point. *shrug* but i'll stop rambling. im sorry.

It's PRECISELY those tiny, thankless jobs that leads to more and better work! It's called paying your dues. The industry is so insular that people are expected to put in time learning in the low ranks, where you're allowed to make mistakes. If you jump straight to the big leagues without learning how to play the game, you would stand out and unless you bring something unbelievable, you'd get scoffed out of the system.

I just gotta say location, location, location. Be where the work is.

Her advice, which she said was what all of the everyone she knew in the vancouver business said too, was to ignore the mainstream way of working, just buy a camera, and do it on your own (Cassavetes and David Ball and other great dudes did this and worked wonders). that'd be the only way to get around to doing what you want if you really want to make your own movie.

If that's your goal, then I absolutely agree with THAT! Haha, there's just a million jobs in this field that are all still tied to filmmaking and I know quite a few people who started in one place and ended up discovering they much preferred a different facet...

You're definitely right there's two different tracks and the one you/she mentions is totally legitimate and I got tons of respect if you can make it that way!

yeah, my goal is basically "shit be damned, i'm making movies". I guess I'm just sort of adverse to being a cog rather than an orchestrator of the thing. *IS PRETENTIOUS OR SOMETHING*. I kind of like the idea of making a movie where I cold count the cast and crew on my fingers and toes. XP

But yeah, like, if I could get ten people who aren't just my friends (or Ray Carney. if Ray Carney had anything to say about my movies, I'd listen) to see movies i make, that'd be pretty cool for me. If i could make enough money to eat from them, that'd be perfect.
