I actually as a kid thought that it would happen. I admit though i thought it was going to be a cartoon movie made for TV.

Disney had the film rights but then stopped production for some reason, don't qoute me on it, don't know the full details

I'm more surprised that THIS book was adapted into a movie, live action no less...

From what I've seen the quality of an animated movie is inversely proportional to the amount of voice actors who are "Stars". I'm hoping it isn't true for this though, it looks awesome.

Yeah, I agree... the famous actor gimmick is getting dry... It surprised me though that this movie has a rather "tamed" voice acting!

hum... well I have sene the trailer and I must say that even if its a nice effort... stop motion movies can be more fluid and dymamic.. I think the chars look stiff and I dont get the humor, but maybe thats just me. I love stop motion movies like Nightmare Before Xmas and Coraline, I think they could have done better with Mr Fox

I think I understand what you mean, but knowing previous work by this director, I guess he might have wanted to capture the feeling of older puppet animation, like things by George Pal or Ray Harryhausen, or from Czekoslovakia and western europe (Jiri Trnka and Ladislas Starevich come to mind now) or even some British classics. Call me nostalgic, but I really loved those stiffy and even clumsy animations of the past, for they had this candid sensibility and warmth that seem to be lost nowadays with the perfection of CGI... I don't think this movie will appeal to a bigger audience, but let's wait and see if it delivers to the story!

heheh thats true, I remmber those saturday morning movies with that kind of animation^^ and yeha looks kinda european style, ^^ I still give it the benefit of doubt and lets see how it goes

i love to look at stop motion. especially when it is really done by hand.. it is so magic!
i hope to see this movie here in italian teathers, i cant miss this shiny piece of art.

Yeah, I'm glad to see stop motion movies coming to theaters too, even though I'm beggining to think this is not meant for everyone, out of the negative comments I've seen around... I'm not sure if they're goint to market this film here in Argentina, cinema bussiness is kinda weird around here, and this movie is specially tricky... It's an author film (for a grown up audience), but for kids (what a contadiction), with no CGI but rather a crafty old school stop motion animation (for animation buffs like me?)... We'll be lucky if it ever gets a local DVD edition...
