I completely intended to post this within my status update journal yesterday, but because I'm a dunce, it slipped my mind and didn't occur to me until hours after I'd posted it. So for those of you who are interested, here's a look at what's to come around May-ish:
---
“Hey Darwin,” Gumball began, as he took a bite of the blackened and seasoned halibut on his plate, “Is it me, or does mom’s cooking taste especially good this time?”
“Oh, I agree!” Darwin responded with gusto, “I mean, it’s always been delicious; but after spending three months eating that bland, unimpressive cafeteria food, it makes me appreciate the taste of home cooked meal.”
“You said it, buddy. Gosh, we sure are lucky to have a mom who loves us enough to really pour her all into her cooking just to make her family happy, aren’t we?”
What had started as joy from hearing her sons compliment her culinary efforts quickly turned into suspicion when she saw them smiling a bit too wide toward her. She knew they weren’t lying about the taste of the food; they’d always eaten it for years without complaint. Something about the way they described it though seemed like they were going out of their way to flatter her, as if they were trying to hide something. It took her a few seconds, but after thinking over what two new college freshman could be hiding after returning from their first semester, she had a hunch as to what they were keeping from her.
“Alright you two, the jig’s up,” Nicole said in an unamused tone, “Let’s see those grades.” The boys smiles quickly melted into horror for a moment as they exchanged nervous glances, before forcing themselves to smile again.
“Uh, but, um, mom…” Gumball began, his ears falling back as a bit of sweat dropped down the side of his head, “Is now really the best time for that? Shouldn’t we be grateful that we’re together again, and take solace in the company of our family without worrying about trivial matters like our grades?”
“I was going to wait until after dinner to bring the subject up, but since you two are trying to butter me up like a biscuit...” Richard looked up from the dinner roll in his paw that he was in the middle of spreading butter onto, before shrugging and returning to his important task, “I think I’ll make a change of plans and see them now.”
“Well, the thing you have to understand is, today’s college demands a lot more of its students than it did say, twenty years ago when you and dad were in college; so with that in mind — .”
“Grades. Now.” Nicole demanded with her brow furrowed in anger.
“... Yes ma’am,” Gumball and Darwin uttered at the same time, before pulling out their smartphones and logging onto their school’s online portal. After a few minutes of nervous typing, both boys reluctantly slid their phones across the table and toward their mother. Barely ten seconds went by before she reacted with a frustrated sigh.
“Both of you barely managed to get a C average?” Nicole asked with a deadpan tone.
“We did our best!” Darwin pleaded.
“Darwin’s right,” Gumball concurred, “I mean, we went to every class, stayed up all night studying, and even went to some tutoring sessions — on weekends!”
“He means they slept through class, stayed up all night playing video games and hung out with friends on weekends.” Anais said, before taking a heaping bite of the mashed potatoes on her plate.
“That sounds about right,” Nicole said, “While we’re on the subject, Anais, I assume your grades were…?”
“Straight A’s; I did get an A minus in biology, but that’s because I didn’t take the final exam and skipped class that day.” Gumball and Darwin stared at their ten year old sister with mouths agape in shock.
“You got an A without even taking the final!?” Gumball asked.
“Yup. Had perfect attendance up until the last day and got perfect scores on all the assignments and tests before the final, so my professor said I didn’t need it. I spent the day contacting some physicist labs for internships. They said they couldn’t hire me yet because of my age, but I was more than welcome to stop by anytime and get to know the staff to get my foot in the door.” Nicole’s gaze turned from her daughter back to her sons, tapping her paw impatiently against the table.
“It’s not our fault Anais is freakishly smart!” Gumball protested, “Seriously, it’s like a mutant power of hers or something!”
“I don’t want to hear excuses, from either of you,” Nicole persisted as her eyes looked between Gumball and Darwin, “I haven’t scraped my way up into management at the Rainbow Factory and pulled to work overtime on multiple nights out of the week to put my three children through college only to have two of them squander their education and eventually flunk out.” Gumball heaved an aggravated sigh in response to his mother’s lecture.
“It’s not like me and Darwin were begging you to put us in college or anything,” he responded with annoyance, adding fuel to the fire of Nicole’s building anger, “You’re the one who told us ‘You ARE going to college once you’re done with high school!’ and we just went with it because we knew we didn’t have a choice.” Nicole’s teeth began to grind as the feeling inside her began to build up even stronger, to the point where she was struggling to hold it back. “Besides, some of the most influential people in the world flunked college, or didn’t even go to begin with! If anything, the fact that me and Darwin are doing terribly in school is a good sign that we might make something of ourselves; it’s Anaise you should be concerned about.”
“Gumball Watterson!” Nicole exclaimed as she stood up from her chair and slammed her paws on the table, “Don’t you DARE take that tone — !”
Pwrrrrp
The dining room went deadly silent following the sudden expulsion that reverberated through the room, the only noise heard being Gumball’s fork clattering against the plate as he dropped it from his mouth. All eyes were on the female cat standing up, frozen in place as her eyes nervously bounced between each family member. A few seconds later, her cheeks turned a bright shade of cherry red as she realized there was no way for her to deny what she’d just done. Despite her best efforts to hold back the after effects of her lunch, her rising temper had made her lose control for a moment, causing her sphincter to flex and let slip a deep bass of a fart that had actually made her behind shake from its power.
“Pfft, ah ha ha ha!” Richard laughed, prompting Darwin and Anaise to do the same, “It looks like your Burrito Bonanza came back to say hello to all of us!”
“Oh man, mom had Burrito Bonanza for lunch?” Darwin asked, “Dad, you might want to sleep with the windows open tonight.”
“Well, I’m glad all of you found that funny,” Nicole muttered, still blushing with her arms crossed. As she stood there with a cross look on her face, she caught a whiff of the puff that had escaped her behind. It wasn’t overpowering, but it was quite pungent, with a tart and acidic smell to it. While the others laughed, she noticed that the only one not chuckling at her embarrassing predicament was Gumball himself, whose gaze remained fixed on her as if he was hypnotized.
Looking at Gumball with confusion, her eyes noticed something down below, and she tilted her gaze down before gasping at what she saw. The center of his jean shorts stood upright along his zipper, like a stiff pole jutting from his crotch. She would have chalked it up to being a weird way the the fabric of his jeans had folded, were it not for the fact that she could see it throbbing slightly. A moment passed, and Gumball’s left leg rose and crossed over his crotch, hiding the bump between his legs. Nicole looked up and saw Gumball facing away from her with a nervous smile on his face, his cheeks turning a lighter shade of red than hers.
Realizing what had just taken place, Nicole quickly sat down without a word to the rest of her family, still chuckling to themselves about how she’d just farted so abruptly. While she still felt ashamed for losing control so suddenly, her mind dwelled on the image of her son’s lower half, and the shaft poking upwards underneath his pants. After a moment, she forced herself to stop thinking about it for now and to try and enjoy the fact that her kids were back home from college, even if things had just become awkward for them so soon.
