Sooo pumped for Cfz 2018

A few days ago, Confuzzled announced their Game Jam, perfectly in keeping with this year's Let's Play theme

It was fantastic news to wake up with in the morning. It's just over two weeks to go for submissions, and I hope I'm gonna be able to make it in time!
The game I'm dev'ing is a 2D side scrolling shooter that's gonna pay homage and tribute to the greats of the 80s and 90s, and some obscure personal faves :) Will be focusing on a basic, "casual" kind of game play that everyone should be able to win at, and am hoping to squeeze in a Bullet Hell mode. Yes, you can never get Dodonpachi out of a wolf's brain.
I'm not gonna expect much. This is a one wolf show and i haven't touched unity since I shut down my game dev side hustle (more like money/time sink), but I don't think Unity has changed that much since then. Personally, given that the graphics I'm shooting for is jus-above-NES level, I'd rather have gone with a leaner engine like Defold, but I'm much more familiar with getting shit done in C# versus Lua.
Status so far: I got all the boss art completed last night (yes, one night. You will see how shitty my programmer "art" is), gonna be focusing on getting bg artwork, bullets and FX in next. Got a tiny 20x20 sprite of Brok, even got his death animation (lol) ready to go. PyxelEdit is my tool of choice for this.
In other news, I have been shooting at anime cons to get up to speed with my D3400, especially after the fiasco with it at last year's Cfz. Went to Kupocon last weekend and I had a blast. In fast, low light situations, the AF performance is suitably laughable. But it is a <300 dollar camera, so that's a given with a slow zoom. On the flip side, the dynamic range is surprisingly good. I was shooting at iso 3200 for the most part, and the noise is not at all objectionable.
Do I miss my D500? Yes. Can I justify keeping a top of the line DX camera given how much I shoot nowadays? Nope.
