Funny thing was that the whole pleasure island situation just confused me. I could never comprehend why you would do the things that they did. I couldn't see the appeal in tobacco or alcohol and I actually disliked the idea of destroying stuff just for the sake of it. I thought it was a waste. I'm a bit of a loner by nature, and I certainly do not like being part of a crowd. It was an interesting concept, though, and the transformation was interesting. I don't think I would mind getting turned into a donkey that much, but I doubt it would happen. Which would leave the owner of the island in a very awkward position...

Adomm tells me it's an interesting and beneficial business model. They take the trouble-making dregs of society and re-purpose them into hard-working individuals. The PI employees and marketeers paid for the effort, the trouble-makers get a new purpose in life, the spirit gets good form-weaving practice (see short story), and the buyers are supplied with otherwise perfectly healthy livestock to fit their needs.
