Might lose internet.
We just got an email today that as of the 30th of this month, our ISP is dropping all dial-up customers. There are over 1 million people in our state still stuck on dial-up and now it looks like all of them will be scrambling to find an alternative. The only other option we have is going to expensive satellite internet. I have a feeling this has a lot to do with the end of Net Neutrality. All of our local internet providers have been bought up by the big companies, so we are pretty well screwed.

sorry to hear that. :( Just means the places with free wi-fi are going to be packed really soon. Miss chatting live with you.

I miss chatting as well. Sadly, the US is failing hard at everything.

No one nearby with broadband. The phone company refuses to activate the DSL on our road and the cable company stopped the lines roughly 1/2 mile from our house and refuse to come out further. One neighbor lives only 1/8 of a mile from the line and Time Warner wanted to charge him $25,000 just to bring the line to his house! The reason is they suddenly only want to do underground line.

Yeouch, I am super sorry to hear that. Do any of your local providers offer a fixed point wireless option?

Nope, all are gone. Bought out or just out of business.

Ouch, I know in Canada the government actually subsidized companies to put in fixed point wireless to cover rural areas that couldn't get high speed internet service.
