Gotta Rant. Gonna Rant.

I follow a number of artists who occasionally post journals that just make me rage, all with a similar subject: Financial Scamming.
That is:
1) Using someone else’s funds without permission
2) Intentional chargebacks
3) General payment-dodging
4) Other forms of payment fraud
The list probably goes on, but it’s after 2 in the morning and I’m not even half-functional right now.
I see artists reporting that a commission is finished and sent and, the moment the artist asks for payment…the commissioner and all trace of them disappears.
I see people dealing with chargebacks because of kids stealing their parents’ credit cards.
I see folks unwilling to even begin art without a downpayment on even their cheapest pieces.
I see artists refusing to even do commissions anymore because people keep screwing them.
They’re pressed to ask for IDs. Terms of service are becoming increasingly elaborate in order to protect them and their wellbeing. They virtually all have to invoice you before payment can be rendered and products transferred.
What the actual FUCK, man?!
Why the fuck have a terrifyingly rapidly growing number of “commissioners” made it so difficult for these people to just do their fucking work? I get that they don’t care about the new hoops that the honest among us commissioners and adopt-buyers then have jump through to get a piece/design from these artists. They clearly don’t care that this is probably/usually the artists’ livelihoods they’re fucking with.
But why? People are fucking struggling out here and scammers are only making matters that much worse when these people then have to double down just to pay off the fees and negative balances so that they can hopefully feed themselves and pay their damn bills. They may make back the money, but they will never get back that time. They will never “get over” what was done to them.
WHY?
There has to be a name for what’s wrong with these fucking thieves.
I hope that artists know that those of us who honestly love your art and are willing to pay, be it for a design, a sketch, a painting, a sculpture, a plushie, a fursuit, or whatever it may be, because we want this badly enough and because we want to help if we can, we’re still gonna follow any existing (and future terms of service) laid out by you. A picture of me with my ID? Fine. Send the invoice. Request the video chat. Do what you must and we’ll do what we must, because y’all deal with enough bullshit and disrespect as it stands.
At least, that’s how I feel about it.
