The ones I think of are Kissy Fur, Sonic Sat Am, The Littles, ThunderCats, Bucky O'Hare, T Rex, to name a few. ^__^

I'm more inclined to blame literature rather than cartoons. I was raised on a pretty steady diet of books like Kipling's Just So Stories and Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats (which I was familiar with well before I even knew of the musical). But I suppose if I were going to pin down any cartoon as having had an influence on me, it was very likely He-Man. Even though he wasn't anthropomrophic, except insofar as he could talk and think like a human, Cringer/Battlecat was always a favorite of mine, and I think that show had a lot of influence on steering me toward an interest in fantasy as a genre.

YES! The only bad thing about the show was the stupid human kid. They should've done the whole show without him or trying to connect to the 'real' world.

Yeah, i have always hated show that think they need to include a kid character in order for the kids at home to relate too..

It's weird, because all of the legitimate research into the subject says that young kids want to either see adults, or teenagers/kids that are older than them, not kids their own age. Yet media producers are dogmatically set in this mindset that they need kid characters that their intended viewers can relate to.

One of the few things I remember having for as long as I've had a long-term memory was a VHS copy of Disney's Robin Hood that my dad must have recorded from a TV broadcast. So right off the bat, the concept of anthropomorphism was normalized.

Though I think what really destined me for the fandom, ironically enough, was the overt sexuality of humans in animation. Too many cartoons of the 80s and early 90s included female characters just for the sake of having a love interest to the lead, and far more often than not, that meant these girls had little to no personality.

Meanwhile, the furry gals were not intended to be seen as desirable, so they were allowed to be characters. Even those that clearly were there to be love interests to the hero could escape from under this. Like how the first thing we discover about Maid Marian is that she can play badminton, and the second thing is that she's approachable and understanding in complete contrast to her surroundings.

So. . . Cartoons that destined me for the fandom? *shrugs* He-Man, Captain N, G.I. Joe, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and every other cartoon that ever shoved a pair of bald boobs in my face.

Damn, you may be on to something. I remember having early interests in many of those because of ... well ... the obvious, but the female characters' very limited participation plus their complete lack of depth beyond cleavage made it really difficult to sustain that interest.

Then Sonic SatAM came along, and boom... Far less an obviously "sexually attractive" character than the above examples, but Sally spawned an unstoppable juggernaut of fans. The nascent internet fandom took a liking to her instantly, too.

No cartoon destined me for sites like FA. I only read history books with few exceptions. One February I happened to buy a book about Japanese myths and tales, enjoyed the stories about kitsunes before ending up on SoFurry... Now I've been writing about anthropomorphic characters almost six years.

Gargoyles, Swat Katz, Disney stuffs, Sonic, Rocket Knight ... but I think the one thing that Hammered this into being a large enjoyment in my life

Paw Paw Bears was definitely another one on the list. Animators of the 80s have a lot to answer for :)

Bugs Bunny, Wile E. Coyote, and all the rest of the Warner Brothers cartoons. Rocky and Bullwinkle. Cartoons with pratfalls for the kids, and jokes for the adults.

I would have to say, many Disney movies at first, and later Redwall. Though I mostly think that these simply reinforced feeling I already had, not created them.

It's a different case for me. My interests arose as an adult, out of the fact that while I like seeing naked women, I find naked men a turn-off. So what I'm more interested in is human females with male anthros or monsters, which serves as a compromise between the two points.
