A Real, Kind of Serious Question
So this is a question that popped up in a discord server, and it seems like a generally good question.
The subject of Doug Winger came up. For those not in the know, DOug Winger was a rather popular furry artist that did a lot of herm/futa furry art, mostly hyper, with a good deal of cheesy comedy mixed in.
You can see a lot of it on his Furaffinity account here.
And notice I said was? Well, that’s because, unfortunately, Doug succumbed to COPD about three years ago. Doug, though I never met or chatted with him, was kind of formative in the deviant I am today, it was the first herm and hyper stuff I saw, and I liked the cheesy jokes and stupid puns and everything.
A lot of Doug’s stuff was art of popular characters (You will see a lot of Minerva Mink, for those old enough to remember her) but he also had a fair number of characters folks liked like Pandora the naughty hyper herm dog.
Anyways, the question that came up is this.
Is it disrespectful to still get fan art of someone’s characters after they have passed? Is it wrong to pay tribute like that?
I’m personally of the mind that it’s a good thing as long as you don’t do something with their characters that they didn’t do, treat the characters with the respect their creator did.
but I’m interested in seeing what folks think about this. So, if you are an artist, commissioner or otherwise someone who owns an OC who is, for whatever reason, following me…What do you think?

I believe the context is important, the fursona of someone who died I feel is probably a bit too far if it's porn regular art is fine, however in the case of something like Minerva she isn't just an OC anymore she's a furry sex symbol.

OP
What about an OC that isn't a fursona (Minerva wasn't an OC)

I completely forgot that Minerva was an actual thing from Animaniacs, goes to show how heavily I associated her with winger, but just an OC is perfectly fine in my opinion, A Fursona is a bit too far because they're a representation of someone who has passed.

He did have a Minerva look-alike OC...Can't quite remember her name, but her biggest difference was her big ol' donger
