Ups and Downs of Life

Sorry, it has been over a year.
In that time I got engaged! You can see the art I made about it here. You haven't seen art of Hootie yet because, quite frankly, feathers are time-consuming in illustrator! And so I haven't finished his reference sheet. He has penguin markings because he couldn't decide if he loved owls or penguins more, and penguin markings and much less complicated than owl markings. We do not yet have a wedding date because we were going to get married this past October, but in January a hiccup in my graduation route happened and it was pushed back a whole semester, so I am going to graduate this December. We currently can't afford to live together, so we don't see much point in getting legally married yet if we can't even do that. Once I have a job (he would help with income via his GI bill, it just isn't enough for him to live off on its own atm so he is working until I find a job) and we can afford to live together, we will get legally married. Hopefully, we will have our wedding in October/November of 2019. It's not going to be very traditional, as a lot of that is rooted in selling a virgin woman like a product, and I am not a woman nor product, so.... We're basically going to be exchanging vows and then eating/dancing - no aisle, no officiant, just vows, food, and dancing. We are wearing each other's favorite colors and everyone else can wear whatever they like - yes, even if that is white, and yes, even if that is pajamas, so long as they aren't legally indecent. We'll have pronoun pins and shut down any baby talk and it'll be grand! Hopefully!
My hope is to teach in underprivileged middle/high schools, the DJJ, and/or the adult prison. I want to give people the skills to better not only themselves, but also their communities, so that others do not get stuck in their position. And while yes, art doesn't seem like the most practical way to achieve this, science shows art participation improves ability in all the other subjects and has therapeutic effects. I want to help on the small scale, in the hopes that it ripples to a larger scale.
But yes, studies and work are why I haven't been active basically at all on here. To those who read this, how have things been for you?
