Question about thumbnails?

So I've been using classic mode because beta used to not allow you to view favorite submissions from the main profile page, which I didn't like. But apparently that was changed and I never knew about it til now, so I decided to try it out.
But I realized that any custom thumbnails from non-flash submissions were not showing up. When I went to the 'update thumbnail' option and put in a new file, nothing happened. Is that a bug or am I doing something wrong? I tried clearing my cache but the thumbnail didn't show up anywhere, not even in the preview page where you upload your thumbnails. I used a jpg file at ~40kB.
Thanks to anyone who can either confirm its just a beta-bug or if I'm doing something wrong.
update: for reference I WAS able to change the thumbnail of a flash file in beta mode, and that thumbnail propagated over to classic mode as you would expect

I don't remember the specifics but custom thumbnails only work for a few things, correctly. You can put a custom thumbnail on everything, but it will only show up on some pages, not everywhere.

Yeah that's how it is in classic mode (annoying but at least they can help for some things), but on beta mode they weren't showing up anywhere at all period. Do you know if thats normal?

It seems that thumbnails are only used in certain contexts. I couldn't really say where user-selected thumbnails are used, and where auto-generated thumbnails are used, but it seemed random last time I paid attention to it, and I've been on the "beta" mode for a very long time. If you're not seeing them at all, it could be a caching issue. You might have to clear cache & cookies to make them start showing up.
I did try that and it did not help :C Maybe I am just not finding the right context for the thumbs to show up. It is very frustrating. I don't think that clearing the cache first and then replacing the thumbnail would do anything right? (Instead of atttempting to replace and then clearing cache after.) Oh well, its not very important I suppose. Thank you for the info!
