Heh, I see a lot of second stages. I always feel closest to my starters at their third stage, because it's when we've gotten to know one another completely, and I've helped them reach their pinnacle~

This isn't necessarily a list of things I like to use most in-game, or anything like that.
It's more of a list of "favorites" for any reason whatsoever, big or small, and which I like best from each family tree.

Typh and Blaziken are total bros!

Of course I'd always use a Blastoise over a Wartortle, but I like Wartortle's design and lore and stuff more than Blastoise's silly water cannons.
Same with Torracat, it has such a fantastic and thoughtful design with its flame-bell and the soft ringing chime in its vocal cry.
And as for Braixen... Yeah, it's sexy. That's basically it.

Similarly, yet different, I MUCH prefer Dewott over Samurott. I don't like the evolved form's design at all, nor do I like the change in personality. I have 2 Lv 100 Dewott!

I find that too many people are obsessed with raw power and the pinnacle of numbers, and fail to appreciate some things while they can.
Some Pokemon like themselves the way they are. And in the same vein, we all can't wait to grow up... But then once we're old, we all wish we were young again.

(Besides, from an average gameplay perspective, you can level up any Pokemon high enough and it'll be viable.)

First Gen: The adorable Charmander, or Mega Charizard Y. The others are kinda... Not what I go for.
Second Gen: This is a tough one, but I’m gonna say Quilava. I like a whole third of this Gen’s Starters, with both Cyndaquil and Chikorita, but a cute second stage? Not something you see every Gen.
Third Gen: Gonna have to go with Torchic. As with Charmander, none of the others really... Get me. Though, among Megas, gimme the Christmas-tree butt.
Fourth Gen: Piplup, see Charmander and Torchic above.
Fifth Gen: Were they even trying at this point? Thank the anime for my choice of Snivy, her Attract Infatuated me.
Sixth Gen: Now you’re talkin’! Fennekin line, full stop!
Seventh Gen: Nooooooooo! Litten, what did they do to you!?
