Chris McQuarrie to direct Star Wars
never.
so, first off... go see Mission Impossible - Fallout.
It's a genius film and deserves all the love it can get. I kinda think it was the most entertaining "I want to see that again" film this year.
And what's better is that Chris McQuarrie took the Raiders approach to making this film: cook up some absolutely amazing set-pieces, revel in it, then construct a story to make it happen.
So ... that's what we'd want in a Star Wars spin-off, right?
...
well

As you can read here: the director doesn't want to risk his career doing anything with Star Wars because of the toxic entrenched fanbase.
So yeah = top tier talent is being driven away because of how fans treated Rian Johnson. And I doubt he's the only one who's like this.
Congrats, spoiled brat fanboys!
p.s. I patiently await the hatemail from the people who only ever reach out to me when I post a journal about Star Wars.
p.p.s. I also patiently await the fanboys who go out of their way to defame Chris McQuarrie in a petty attempt to prove that they aren't in the wrong.

FA+

I posted my two cents once on SW, and I genuinely like your art!
I dont usually comment, but when I do I really like the pic.
You're one of the few who draw silicone-like tits around here (FA) :)
it's like this meme guy

"It's been a week since I told anyone how much i hate new star wars"
and then today (after I post this), out of the blue, someone levied a whole list of bigot-cards against me in a comment on an unrelated picture (internet spoiler tactic, if they offend you, take revenge elsewhere to prove that they're evil and you're right by default).
Remember, a common tumblr/twitter/college-student tactic is to hold a grudge and dig up dirt on the person who disrespects you (or doesn't agree with you at all).
There is a legitimate problem with the fanbase. I was skeptical about it for a long time until I tried talking about the franchise and playing devil's advocate. Then I ended up seeing the darker elements of it. Quoting a friend "They make Trekkies look sane. You love star wars more than it deserves."
Unfortunately, I don't think we'll get anything else in theaters. We'll get the 3rd film in this time period ... and outside of stuff on Disney XD nothing more.
It just costs too much money for it to be anything other than a home run. They could be, instead, funneling that money into MCU ... and they probably will. Since that's the safer bet.
I didnt think ppl would be that desperate.
Tells you a lot about them lives doesnt it?
B-BIGOT CARDS?! Wtf..
Usually these cards are used by the far-left.
Why would they use that on someone defending SW universe??
Alright, case closed. Jesus..
...
They'll throw the cards on anything they don't like, especially if they're potentially in the wrong.
Maybe............maybe death might be the best thing for it. For everyone's sake.
Maybe we need to try and make something new, and build from the ashes...
in the 80s/early90s anime was seen as a hobby strictly observed by creepy men in basements (and they reveled in the more graphic parts of what Japan had to offer).
...
then during the 2000s and on the Japanese distributors have been working on changing the image of anime. And now, more people associate it with the broad spectrum of entertainment that it can provide.
...
so yeah, you can shape your fanbase. ... though I do express doubt that Star Wars has time left. After all, the principle reason Clone Wars was cancelled was that nobody watched it live. It took a cult following and momentum of people saying "no, seriously, watch LAIR OF GREVIOUS" to get the momentum train going ... but clone wars did die due to lack of interest.
Also ... giving a warning about the old "WE NEED SOMETHING NEW" is a trap I've seen in college professors since it usually means (subtext) "whatever I like" ... not necessarily quality.
I've learned more about quality by working on existing franchises than trying to do something new.
Doubly sad since Solo was actually really brilliant and hilarious ... but nobody watched it.

Fandoms can go wrong, very wrong. Just look at bronies who have an entire subgenre of post-apoc-torture fan-canon off a kid's show. Or as the video points out: people who judge the quality of the work based solely on perscription criteria, or whether or not Luke Skywalker gets his power fantasy wish fulfillment. Or how Leifeld got stalker abusers during the early 2000s in the form of assholes going up and asking "what's it like to be a sham?" and expecting a response.
