If you fursuit around my region you get arrested. That's not a joke either, it labels you as a pedophile.

It's all kind of foolish when you consider humanity has been worshiping animals for millennia, wearing their skins, praying for bountyful harvest, fertility rights, e.t.c. They still do and it's part of their culture that's far older than modern society.

Also should mention the fact that you don't hear any where near as much hate for the people that take on the persona of vampires and werewolves which is a very large fandom and it's just a sex imbued as anything else.

Far out, that is harsh. I'm glad we are more open-minded in Australia.

If looking for blame you have to look to the americans. Even back in the early fandom days with IRC (the dawn of the internet) furries shunned fursuiters. I watched how things evolved and it was not pretty. They spent more time inventing ways to bully people than they did breathing and i wish that was an exaggeration.

It's strange when you have such hate for furries when you worship a bald eagle for war glory and some misguided idea of freedom such as dominating the world. The UK has an affinity for the lion, gryphon and the dragon. Canada has a loon on it's 1$ coin and it's national animal is the beaver. Australia has an affinity for the Koala, kanagaroo, dingo, crocodile, e.t.c and if you dress up as one of those you probably wouldn't get hated on.

People wanting the finest fur coats, leather racing gloves seems more than a little hypocritical to hate on the animals they get it from.

I have two fursuits and a rarely use them theses days. Mostly for Halloween and even then i get reported for just standing there looking scary.

I seen that Steve Irwin (crocodile hunter) had a fursuit that he entertained his daughter with.
