I just discovered a report that Charlotte Rae passed away yesterday, which her time was indeed coming sooner or later, but no matter how much preparation for this time was given, it would still never cease to fill those who knew her with sadness and mourning nonetheless. Although she was 92 years of age at the time of her death, she never ever felt that she ever grew old. Her charm, personality, and humor kept her forever young, and she was always the type of person that loved life, loved her fans, and did whatever it took to put a smile on their faces. I was fortunate to be able to have personally experienced her true sparkling personality up close. The fans will remember her as the unforgettable and sometimes strict Mrs. Garrett from The Facts of Life, but on a more personal level, her outlook on life and the stories she told of her time as an actress, a songwriter, a performer, and an all around wonderful person truly showed us that there existed a very sweet and dear lady that was welcoming to everyone. I will always remember Charlotte Rae this way. May she forever rest in peace, and continue to shed her warmth and light beyond the gates of Heaven.
